Sometimes we only have 2 people that can show up…

Our Asst Chief Ryan Bland, and Captain Travis Minnie were those guys today ready!!

A structure fire came in at 14:37, they both showed up ready to go in new structural gear under grants from Fire Department Assistance - Texas A&M Forest Service; and hit it hard.

With limited impact, and the follow up support of Winters Volunteer Fire Department and Runnels County Precinct 3, we controlled and reclaimed the structure with an amazing level of ownership!

It’s great to work together in a controlled and calm manner, to be there for our community!

- thank you!

The user Marie Antosen posting Wingate merch is not affiliated with our department!

If you want hats or shirts, we would be glad to make that happen with proceeds supporting your local department directly!

Suvern O’Dell, a founding member of our department, has answered his final call.

From serving our country and surviving the collapse of a building in a war zone, to faithfully serving our community, Suvern always showed up when others needed him.

Thank you, Suvern, for your courage, sacrifice, and selfless service. Your legacy will remain a lasting part of our department and our community.

You will be deeply missed.

Beginning tomorrow morning, Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the Texas Department of Transportation will begin making temporary improvements to the stretch of roadway that has become prone to jackknifes, slides, rollovers, and near head-on crashes.

We have responded to more than a dozen accidents in roughly a 200-foot section of road. In fact, while evaluating the area, our Fire Chief, Assistant Chief, and a TxDOT supervisor were nearly involved in an incident themselves.

We are proud to share that TxDOT Taylor County has fought hard to get this addressed. Starting tomorrow morning, crews will begin work that includes hot-mix paving to improve the safety of this area.

Please slow down, stay alert, and watch carefully for these workers. They are out there doing important work for the safety of our community.

Thank you for your continued support of Wingate Fire Rescue.
