Good afternoon, everyone!

Early voting begins next week!

We would like to remind everyone that Winn Parish Fire Protection District #3's millage continuation (renewal) will be on the ballot on November 3. This is not a new tax.

This millage accounts for approximately 90–95% of WPFD #3's annual revenue and is essential to funding the daily operations of our fire district.

We would certainly appreciate your support!

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the millage continuation, please feel free to stop by our Central Station at 8920 Highway 501 or call us at 318-628-1230.

We would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have and help you better understand how these funds support fire protection services throughout our district.

Thank you for your continued support of WPFD #3 and the firefighters who serve our communities!

🔥 ELEVATED FIRE DANGER CONTINUES 🔥

Although weather conditions have allowed the Red Flag Warning to expire, elevated fire danger will persist throughout the upcoming week.

We are expected to experience some of the lowest relative humidity values we have seen this year, which, combined with ongoing drought conditions, will significantly increase the potential for wildfires.

We urge everyone to remain vigilant, strictly adhere to the burn ban currently in effect, and follow the additional fire prevention precautions listed below.

Remember, it only takes one spark to ignite a wildfire under these conditions. Please do your part to help protect our communities, homes, and firefighters.

If you see smoke or suspect a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 911.

Stay safe!

A very dry airmass will combine with recent severe to extreme drought conditions to make for favorable fire weather conditions again on Monday. Minimum relative humidity values of between 20 and 30 percent indicate very dry air.

Winn Parish Fire Protection District #3 extends our deepest condolences to the United States Forest Service, as well as the family, friends, and fellow firefighters of Kaitlyn Gallagher, who tragically lost her life while participating in wildfire suppression efforts in Rapides Parish.

The loss of someone serving in the protection of others is a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers faced by those who answer the call to serve.

We ask that the WPFD #3 community keep Kaitlyn's family, friends, and fellow firefighters in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

It is with very heavy hearts that we share the news that on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, wildland firefighter, Kaitlyn “KK” Gallagher, 24, of Alexandria, Louisiana, died in the line of duty when she was struck by a tree while responding to the Broken Creek Fire, a 10-acre wildfire now contained, which was in Rapides Parish on the Kisatchie National Forest.

“As we experience this terrible tragedy, our prayers are with KK’s family, friends, and all who knew her,” said Lisa Lewis, Forest Supervisor. “The loss of KK is deeply felt throughout the Forest Service, the entire wildland fire community, and our local community. We extend our deepest condolences to everyone who was touched by her life.”

KK joined the U.S. Forest Service as a Wildland Firefighter Apprentice in 2025. She spent two summers on the Shoshone National Forest in Wyoming, serving on both engine and wildland fire modules. While working for the Kisatchie National Forest, KK assisted with prescribed burns and responding to wildfires. Her joy for life, heart for service, and love of outdoors made her a valued member of the U.S. Forest Service. Her family stated that KK’s passion was sharing her faith in Jesus, a passion she lived out while helping shape young lives as a Youth Leader at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church and Girls Basketball and Softball coach at Holy Savior Menard High School, both in Alexandria.

The Forest Service is providing support to KK’s family, crewmates and other affected employees. The Forest Service Honor Guard is standing with KK’s family and providing a flag memorial service honoring her.
