Chambers County is now under a burn ban

๐Ÿšจ BURN BAN IN EFFECT โ€” CHAMBERS COUNTY ๐Ÿšจ

Effective September 24, 2026, Chambers County Judge Jimmy Sylvia has issued a burn ban, which includes a prohibition on outdoor burning throughout Chambers County due to continued hot, dry conditions and the increased threat of dangerous, fast-moving wildfires.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Outdoor burning is prohibited until further notice.

The order does provide certain exceptions, including authorized firefighter training, certain public utility and agricultural operations, and qualifying prescribed burns conducted in accordance with state requirements.

โš ๏ธ Please take this order seriously. A violation may constitute a Class C misdemeanor and may be enforced by a duly commissioned Peace Officer with authority in Chambers County.

We ask everyone to use extra caution, avoid activities that could produce sparks or start a fire, and help us protect our residents, first responders, and property.

Please share to help spread the word.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Fact: Support doesnโ€™t end when treatment does.

Some childhood cancer survivors face health effects that appear months or years later. Follow-up care helps them stay healthy as they grow. (cancer.govโ ๏ฟผ)

At Winnie-Stowell Volunteer Fire Department, weโ€™re cheering for every milestone, from the last day of treatment to the years that follow. Letโ€™s keep showing up for these children and their families.

The heavy smoke in the area is coming from a marsh fire south of the Intracoastal Canal East of Hwy 124.
The fire originated from a group of juveniles traversing the beach in a silver SUV possibly shooting a flare or fireworks.

CCESD 1- Winnie-Stowell Fire responded to the point of origin approximately 2.2 miles East of the 87/124 curve. On arrival, there was an estimated 8-10 acres burning 150yds north of the dunes in an inaccessible area to wheeled vehicles.

Federal resources were requested to respond due to limited access in the refuge area.

Type 6 wildland fire crews along with marshmasters conducted a burnout of the area anchored close to the 124 bridge.
This burn was conducted to prevent the fire from running westward along the canal as well as to protect the High Island community.

While the smoke is an irritant and inconvenient, it poses no significant threat and should dissipate within the next 12-24 hours.

We will attempt to keep everyone updated in the event that the fire progresses beyond its intended boundaries or in the event of imminent danger to the community.

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, military members, and everyday heroes who answered the call.

Their courage, sacrifice, and service will never be forgotten. May we continue to stand united and carry forward the spirit of compassion and strength that brought our nation together.
