⚡ And the winning name is… BOLT! ⚡

A huge thank-you to the amazing third graders across our community who helped us name our mascot!

We received over 135 name suggestions and coloring pages, and every single one showed how talented our local students are! We were amazed by the creativity, thoughtfulness, and enthusiasm we witnessed during our visits.

🎉 Congratulations to our contest winner, Josie from St. Luke Hall!🎉

Josie suggested the name “Bolt” and she also did a fantastic job coloring. With Josie’s help, we were able to give “Bolt” a name and welcome them to the Winona Police Department.

We feel extremely fortunate to be part of such a wonderful community. A special thank-you to all the teachers, classroom helpers, staff, administrators, parents, and family members who helped make this contest possible.

An extra special thank you to Target in Winona for their generous donation to our winner.

We can’t wait for everyone to meet Bolt! ⚡💙

A little creativity, a lot of school spirit, and some very important opinions from our 3rd graders! 🖍️👮‍♀️👮‍♂️

The Winona Police Department recently stopped by several elementary schools to invite 3rd graders to take part in our mascot naming and coloring contest. The students shared ideas, asked great questions, and helped make the visits a lot of fun!

It was wonderful seeing our officers connect with students in such a positive way. Thank you to all the schools, teachers, and students who welcomed the WPD and joined in the fun! 💙

Here are a few photos from the school visits! Stay tuned for the winning name to be announced.

Railroad Safety Week this week!

We live in a historic and very active train community. The many tracks and crossings are woven into the city. Residents and visitors alike regularly see and hear trains operating in the city. From Canadian Pacific and Amtrak passing through, to Union Pacific operating on the sidetracks, it is important for us to remember that trains cannot stop quickly, to obey all crossing signals, and never use the tracks as a shortcut. Let’s keep our community safe together this Rail Safety Week!
