πŸš’ Training. Teamwork. A little friendly competition.

Monday night, our members spent the evening working on ladder operations, getting hands-on with both our ground ladders and the aerial device on Truck 11.

Training like this helps build the skills, confidence, and muscle memory our firefighters rely on when it matters most. And sometimes, a little competition makes the training even more engaging!

A special thank-you to Captain Mike LaMere for turning the evening's training into a bit of a challenge and bringing some friendly competition to the crew. It was a great way to learn, work together, and have a little fun along the way.

The work we put in during training helps us be ready for whatever call comes through the door. πŸ’ͺπŸ”₯

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Multi-Agency Response to Crystal Lake Water Emergency

Wi******er, CT – September 17, 2026

Emergency personnel dispatched to Secret Lake in the Algonquin State Forest at approximately 7:10p.m. Wednesday for a report of a person who had been seen going underwater.

Winsted Police Department, Wi******er Fire Department and Winsted Fire Department personnel responded and began coordinating a search for the individual. Winsted Firefighters entered the lake wearing immersion suits while Wi******er Fire launched its boat to assist with the search.

During the operation, a Winsted Firefighter located the individual in the water. Fire personnel recovered the individual and brought them to shore using a Stokes basket, where Winsted EMS and Medic 3 provided medical assessment. The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Region 5 Dive Team was requested but ultimately was not needed.

Wi******er Fire and Winsted emergency personnel remained on scene to assist Winsted Police and Connecticut DEEP Environmental Conservation Police with the investigation. The scene was subsequently turned over to Winsted Police.

The incident remains under investigation by the Winsted Police Department and appropriate investigating agencies. No further information regarding the individual is known at this time.

The Winsted Fire Department extends its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time. While the outcome was not what we had hoped for, the dedicated efforts of all emergency responders involved demonstrated the professionalism, courage, and commitment of those who responded to this incident.

09/11/2026

Today we honor the people who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001. It was a day full of tragedy, sadness, and confusion. We remember the 2,977 people who died that day, including the 343 firefighters who answered their last call. As you go through your day today, I encourage you to remember that day, remember the families of the fallen, the people left behind, and of course the people who never had the chance to make it home.

If you have friends or loved ones who are not around that day, please tell them about it because it is something that has become an important part of our history, especially in the fire service. And just as important as the history lesson, please tell them what kind of people we all were on September 12th, 2001.

We opened our homes and our hearts to people, we called loved ones we hadn't talked to in a very long time, and we were kind and compassionate simply for the sake of being kind. On this 25th anniversary, we remember those who lost their lives that day, and the people most deeply impacted by September 11th, 2001. And we vow to never, ever forget.

🚀 Boat Refresher Training at Highland Lake πŸš’

Tonight, members of the department headed to Highland Lake for some hands-on boat refresher training with Marine 1.

Regular training helps our crews stay familiar with our equipment, sharpen our skills, and remain ready to respond when someone needs usβ€”whether that call comes from the road or the water.

A big thank you to everyone who participated tonight and helped make the training a success. We appreciate the time and commitment our members continue to put in to keep our community safe.

🌊 Train today. Be ready tomorrow.
