Tonight in Winthrop, we gathered for the 5th Annual Recovery Event to remember and honor the lives lost to overdose or addiction.

Behind every loss is a family, friends, and a community forever changed. We remember those we have lost, stand with those in recovery, and continue working together to offer hope, support, and compassion to those struggling with addiction.

Grace and Matteo joined me for their first strike today as we walked the line in support of striking workers from Teamsters Local 25 and Unite Here Local 26 against Encore Boston Harbor Casino. Last year Encore made nearly 250 million dollars on 846.9 million in gross revenue. They need to get to the table and compensate their workers.

Friends:

Thank you for your trust and confidence as demonstrated by our overwhelming victory across Winthrop and Revere in this past Tuesday’s Democratic primary. I am honored to again be the Democratic nominee for State Representative for the 19th Suffolk District.

Special thanks to my wife, Melissa, and my cherubs: Rosario, Mary, Joseph, Dominic Grace and Matteo. I could not serve if I did not have their Love and support.

Thanks to my amazing team of volunteers who helped us run a positive campaign of ideas. Sign holding, literature drops, door to door connections and phone calls with voters are a necessary part of any successful campaign and our team did the work every day to make this happen.

Thanks to my partners in government. Every day we go to work and prove that people can approach important issues from different backgrounds, ideologies and perspectives and yet stay focused on trying to improve the quality of life for our friends, families and communities.

I look forward to earning your vote in the November election and continuing to advocate for the working men and women of the 19th Suffolk District and the Commonwealth.

One final note. Nearly 67 percent of registered voters in the 19th Suffolk District are unenrolled voters; neither Democrat or Republican. Voters want government that works for them and not the toxicity of party purists from both extremes who are incapable of dialogue or compromise. Your overwhelming vote on Tuesday is a clear demonstration that independence and moderation both continue to be virtues in the eyes of the overwhelming majority of the voters.
