How do salmon show their love?

Valentine’s Day might be a little too commercial for them. They don’t send chocolates or flowers—but their love story is one worth learning from.

💌 Build a redd: A salmon’s love nest is called a “redd.” They carefully craft it in clean gravel—then the magic begins.
💌 Long-distance romance: Salmon migrate hundreds of miles up rivers and streams to return to their home waters.
💌 True devotion: After spawning, salmon give everything—including their life—for the next generation. Now that’s selfless love!

We are so egg-cited to partner with the Winthrop Public Library on a salmon tank at the library! We added some Coho eggs to the tank this morning. Be sure to stop by throughout the next few months to watch the baby salmon develop and grow!

🎣 Attention Anglers! Big News for 2026 Fishing Season 🎣

✅ Who needs it?
All anglers age 15 and older targeting salmon or steelhead in these waters.
✅ Cost:
$8.75 for anglers 16+
$7.10 for 15-year-olds and seniors (70+)
✅ Where to get it:
