Yesterday, I had the opportunity to visit Ms. Rosas’ 8th grade science class at Winthrop Middle School alongside Principal Mr. Lamar.
Students continued their exploration of car crashes, investigating how factors such as speed, mass, and force influence the amount of damage caused during a collision. Through observations and discussion, students began making connections between these variables and the scientific concept that a change in motion can result in a change in shape.
This year marks the first year of implementing OpenSciEd in 8th grade at WMS. This hands-on, inquiry-based science curriculum encourages students to ask questions, investigate real-world phenomena, and develop a deeper understanding of scientific concepts.
It was great to see students engaged in meaningful discussions and applying scientific thinking to real-world situations.
