Just a heads up, culvert replacement on CTH H between Galvin Ave. and Stadt rd. Wednesday 9/23/2026 at 7:00 a.m. and should be open by 6 p.m. Road will be closed to thru traffic. Please use alternate route.

Conditions are becoming favorable for frost to form in some areas. Brine application to bridges will begin within the next few weeks. When overnight temperatures are consistently below freezing, other areas will require brine to be applied. These areas include bridges, curves, hills, and heavily shaded areas.

The Wis DOT will be closing two railroad crossing on STH 54 between 26th St N, in Wood County, and CTH B, in Portage County. The closure will begin on Monday, September 14, 2026. Traffic will be detoured via WIS 13, WIS 34, WIS 66 and I-39.

WIS 54 will remain open between the crossings with the current single lane closures for the concrete joint repair project. With these crossings closed, Wood County Highway anticipates an increase in local traffic on CTH U, CTH W, and CTH Z. Please allow extra time during your travels as this increased traffic may cause delays.

On or about September 21, 2026 Wood County Highway will be changing to a NEW online permitting system through Delesoft. This change is being made to provide a better mapping experience and streamlined application process for our users and staff. Once the transition to the Delesoft permitting system takes place, applicants will no longer be able to apply for new or view current/past permits in the RTVision Onegov permitting system. Wood County Highway will be archiving all permits currently in the RTVision Onegov system. Applicants will also be required to create new accounts in the new permitting system. I want to make sure everyone is aware that the Wisconsin Department of Transportation will soon be hosting an informational meeting regarding a construction project on State Highway 54 at the Plover and Biron railroad crossings in Portage and Wood counties.

The public gathering will be held on Sept. 2 at 5 p.m. at the McMillan Memorial Library on East Grand Avenue in Wisconsin Rapids.

Project staff will be on hand to share construction details, schedules, traffic impacts and other information. During construction, that section of State Highway 54 will be closed and traffic will be detoured.
