October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. 💜 See post below on how you can participate in spreading awareness.

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

This year, Honey Suckle Bush is inviting our community to use art to bring visibility to the many experiences of domestic violence.

What does domestic violence look like through your eyes?

The violence. The silence. The hiding. The staying. The leaving. The fear. The aftermath. The healing. The children who witnessed it. The parts nobody else saw. The life that came afterward.

Whatever domestic violence looks like through your eyes, we invite you to create it.

Paint it. Draw it. Photograph it. Write it. Collage it. Sculpt it. Create it however it comes out.

Why are we doing this?

Because domestic violence thrives in silence and isolation.

Awareness isn’t about putting someone’s trauma on display. It’s about making space for the experiences that so often happen behind closed doors. It’s about someone seeing a piece of art and realizing, “I’m not the only one.”

It’s about reminding people that leaving isn’t always as simple as “just leave.” Having support, resources, and a community standing beside you can make all the difference.

And it’s about showing people who may still be living it that there are people on the other side who survived, rebuilt, healed, and are still here.

Your art does not have to be graphic. You don’t have to share details you aren’t comfortable sharing. You don’t have to identify yourself as a survivor. And you do not have to tell us your story for your art to tell one.

💜 SUBMISSIONS OPEN OCTOBER 1–19

Post your original artwork and tag Honey Suckle Bush, or send it to us privately if you’d like your piece shared anonymously.

The virtual exhibit will be shared October 22.

Create what you couldn’t say.
Share what deserves to be seen.
Remind somebody they aren’t alone.

Still here. 💜
