Last week was Fire Prevention Week and I need to thank everyone from our department that helped last week!! Active, Honorary, and especially our fire prevention leader, Captain Mike "Ski" Szwajkowski!
Last week we met with Grant Elementary, Woodside Elementary, Pitsch Early Learning Center, Boy Scouts Samoset Council, and St. Lukes Lutheran Preschool. A busy week for sure, but it's great to get to teach the children about fire safety!

Very exciting for Public Safety in Central Wisconsin!

A major step forward for public safety education and training is underway in central Wisconsin.

Mid-State Technical College has launched the campaign for the Nexus Public Safety Center in partnership with the City of Stevens Point and public safety agencies across the region.

The approximately $32 million project will bring together a Mid-State education and training center, a City of Stevens Point fire station, and a satellite police station in one 71,000-square-foot complex. An additional $13 million investment in outdoor training environments will support realistic, scenario-based training across multiple public safety disciplines.

The campaign is already off to a strong start, with more than $2.5 million raised toward the project.

Tonight we went out to the Tri-City Riding Club Arena to deliver a commendation to Chelsea Gilman for the help she rendered at the horrific accident on August 12th. We had 4 critical human patients as well as an equine patient to extricate. Chelsea showed up to help and took charge of getting the animal to safety.

Thank you Chelsea! You are a true asset to this community!!!

There will be a heavy presence of Fire Department vehicles on our town streets today and this evening as our department members complete their EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course) road tests. Thank You!

Gone, but not forgotten!

Firefighter Riley Daniel Ray Huiras, 20
Grand Rapids Volunteer Fire Department. Wisconsin Rapids, WI
Firefighter Huiras became ill after suffering a brain aneurysm on July 31, 2022, after responding to a fire involving multiple structures in Nekoosa, then responded to a motor vehicle crash. He was transported to the hospital, where he remained until his death on August 3, 2022. Firefighter Huiras was also a member of the Grand Rapids Auxiliary Police Department.
