September 11, 2001 — 25 Years Later

Twenty-five years ago today, our nation was forever changed.

We remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the countless families, friends, and communities forever affected by that day.

We remember the police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and other first responders who ran toward danger when others were running away. Many made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.

We also remember the courage and unity that followed. In the face of unimaginable tragedy, Americans came together to help one another, support our first responders, and stand united.

Today, the Wood-Ridge Police Department honors those we lost and those who answered the call.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

In June of 2004 Daniel Diuro started his career of service at the Wood-Ridge Police Department.

He was hired as the day time dispatcher a role he took with integrity and pride.

Dispatcher Diuro was the first voice the residents of Wood-Ridge heard in their time of need; he was a calming voice that put people at ease.

Dispatcher Diuro joined the Auxiliary Police in 2004 and at the time the unit was disbanded he had reached the rank of Sergeant. He assisted patrol during storms, parades and town events.

During his career he has dispatched officers to medical calls where people’s lives were saved in part to his training and knowledge of medical procedures.

Taking the initial call, Dispatcher Diuro was instrumental in many cases where a suspect was apprehended due to relaying pertinent information of the suspect and making sure patrol had minute to minute information.

Prior to his retirement he was named Supervisor of Communications and was responsible for training the new dispatchers. His wisdom and professionalism were passed along to the new dispatchers.

Dispatcher Diuro was always the first person to greet the department in the morning and was always smiling and cracking jokes. He was like the older little brother to many of us.

Now he gets to spend his retirement with his lovely wife, and two sons, daughter in law and his granddaughter.

Dispatcher Diuro although we might not always show it or say it, we all appreciate what you have done for all of us and the Wood-Ridge Police Department.

For 22 years you have answered the calls and kept Wood-Ridge safe but most of all you have protected the officers every time they were dispatched.

Now ride off in one of your 3 classic cars and enjoy your well-deserved retirement!!

Dispatcher Daniel Diuro you are now officially 91.
