Providing fire suppression & rescue services to the Borough of Wood-Ridge since 1897.

At last evening’s monthly meeting, Nick Valdez retired from his position as our department chaplain. Deacon Nick was our chaplain for 15 years, guiding our members and their families through their darkest hours with grace, humility, and wisdom.

Nick is a lifelong resident of Wood-Ridge, a veteran of the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War, a Wood-Ridge Police Detective, a charter member of the Bergen County Arson Squad, an ordained deacon, and friend to all.

We wish him & his wife the best of luck as they move South to be closer to family and hope they won’t be strangers. Our doors will be open, and they’ll always be a part of our family.

We were honored to host Wood-Ridge native and Stanley Cup Champion Bill Burniston at the firehouse today. Bill serves as the Head Strength & Conditioning coach for the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Burniston family has a long history of service to the department. Bill’s brother Tom is an Ex-Chief and current Captain, his nephew Tommy is a firefighter, and his mother Christine was a long serving member of our Ladies Auxiliary.

Congratulations Bill! Thank you for including us in your day.
