Our general meeting on May 14th 2026 at the Woodland Hills Country Club was a very Lively and informative event.

Presentations were made by candidates Ray Portillo for Board of Equalization District 3, Merritt Farren for Insurance Commissioner, David Serpa for California Treasurer, and Tonya Arey for Supervisor of the Third district.

We were presented the descriptions and duties of each position and what, if elected, they plan to do. Tanya in particular educated us about what a supervisor actually does, which was surprising news to most of us.

Our speaker was Rabbi Michael Barclay and the back and forth between him and some of our candidates was extremely lively. He primarily spoke against AB 2017 which would officially designate two major California Muslim holidays. There was a great deal intense excitement and controversial exchanges.

Maria Avila presented election information reports and suggested we review the agenda for endorsements and recommendations. Vicki White updated progress of the scholarship committee, reminding us the awards would be presented at our June 10th evening dinner meeting where the winners would not only be announced but would read their winning essays.

Door prizes were awarded to very happy and excited recipients.

As usual the food was delicious, the discourse was lively and entertaining, and it was a wonderful and unforgettable gathering.

We got a very good education about what each of these candidates educated us about what exactly their position should do and what exactly they plan to do. Tanya in particular educated as about what a supervisor actually does, which was surprising news to most of us.

Our April 8th meeting at the Woodland Hills Country Club was a great success

Our April 8th evening meeting at the Woodland Hills Country Club was a huge success. Besides wonderful speakers we had a great silent auction as well as a live auction with with auctioneer Michael Young, and both did very well.

Our distinguished speakers were Michael Gates for California Attorney General, and Gloria Romero for Lieutenant Governor.

In addition, we were fortunate to also hear from candidates Andrew Kim for Mayor, Oscar Martinez for LA County Sheriff and Elizabeth Ahlers for AD40.

We were all very impressed with the quality of our Slate of candidates. Republicans have a lot of great choices.

It was stressed that we all really need to get out the vote!

For our March 12th general meeting our wonderful guest speaker was Sheriff Chad Bianco running for governor of California. His speech was very impressive and he took plenty of questions.

We had a few very interesting candidates who also said a few words, including Andreas Farmakalidis running for State Assembly District 40, Oscar Martinez running for LA County Sheriff, Tim Gaspar running for LA City Council District 3, and Elizabeth Ahlers running for California State Assembly District 40. Republicans have a wealth of great candidates this year.

Chairperson of our scholarship committee, Vicki White, updated us on the actual patriotic question challenging our high school senior entrants, as well as introducing our amazing scholarship committee. We're looking forward to another great contest and some brilliant essays that will be read by the winners at the awards meeting.

Some terrific prize baskets were won, and we notified our attendees that we need wonderful new items for our April 8th silent auction, which will benefit first responders.

SOTU Presented Wonderful Local Surprises

I was so surprised to see the Congressional Medal of Honor being awarded to World War II 100 year-old pilot Royce Williams. We just saw a presentation about him at Wings Over Wendy's because he's actually a member of Wings Over Camarillo which is associated with Wings Over Wendy's and has visited us and spoken to our group. He was never allowed to share the classified story of how he alone had to fight off seven Russian migs at a time when we were not supposed to be at war. If the truth had come out there would have been a World War. He wasn't allowed to talk about it and the story wasn't allowed to be told until a Russian pilot wrote a book about the whole thing. Once it was out, the truth of Royce Williams heroic Endeavors fighting all these planes by himself, and they had Superior fighters, and much damaged he tried to limp back to the carrier and had only elevator properties left in the plane and wasn't sure he could land. According to the presentation we saw, the captain of the aircraft carrier repositioned it so that Royce could try to land and he did. The plane was very damaged and he was wounded and never allowed to speak about this classified incident until recently. That's why his Medal of Honor was delayed but now I'm so thrilled that President Trump had the first lady present it to him. I was very impressed also with the helicopter pilot who obviously was in pain and still with damaged legs from his Brave service in Venezuela. So many amazing inspiring stories and the best State of the Union probably ever!
