Yolo Food Bank Yolo Food Bank works as a community to meet the food and nutrition needs of Yolo County. To this day, Yolo Food Bank remains the only food bank in Yolo County.
(1)

Yolo Food Bank was established in January 1970 as a backyard gleaning program organized and run by volunteers. Over the next decade, this effort grew to become a food closet, but it was still a volunteer-operated organization. In 1988, the first employees were hired and the organization grew to become a true food bank, joining what is now known as the Feeding America network in the 1990s. Now propelled by more than 50 staff members and nearly 3,000 volunteers in the past year, Yolo Food Bank serves food security needs for the entirety of Yolo County, from food recovery warehouse and operations facilities in Woodland. The organization maintains compliance with all federal, state and county codes and laws, and is the exclusive Yolo County member of Feeding America, the USDA Emergency Food Assistance Program, and the California Association of Food Banks. Together with our network of nearly 200 partners, Yolo Food Bank is on track to distribute at least 12 million pounds of food this year, via 130 distributions each month in every corner of Yolo County. This includes Yolo Food Bank's direct distribution programs (Eat Well Yolo, Eat Home Yolo, and Kids Farmers Market), as well as via more than 80 nonprofit partner organizations countywide. As Yolo Food Bank emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, it is the organization's objective to pursue the development of an equitable, sustainable local food system to benefit the health and wellness of ALL Yolo County residents.

Thank you to Univision 19 for spotlighting Yolo Food Bank's (YFB) Holiday Food Distributions and how we’re getting ready for rising need during the holidays. ❤️

Our Senior Manager of Community Engagement, Yasmin Frausto, shared just how easy it is to get food support from YFB during the holidays. Our Holiday Food Distributions are open to all Yolo County neighbors, and if you can’t make it yourself, you can send a friend or family member to pick up food for you.

You can provide a holiday meal to a neighbor by donating to our Yolo Gives & Gathers campaign today at: yolofoodbank.org/ygg

Understanding the needs of our community starts with asking the right questions. 🧡

At today's Feeding Yolo Together session, Valley Vision kicked off a discussion on regional food access surveys. These surveys collect data around key county demographics, to more precisely understand the state of food insecurity in our county and improve the food and nutrition security of Yolo County residents. Together with our partner agencies, we explored what questions a regional food access survey should ask to truly understand the people we serve.

Thank you to everyone who brought their experience and ideas to the table. Better insight means better support for our community! ✨

We're honored to recognize our Board Chair, Jennifer (Jen) Engstrom, for receiving the Yolo Community Foundation Philanthropy Award! 💫

Jen has been part of the Yolo Food Bank family since joining our Finance Committee in 2019. With 25 years of banking experience, she served as our Board Treasurer for four years and is now our Board Chair. Jen and her husband, Matthew, also give back through their West Sacramento Grocery Outlet, supporting local organizations with food, clothing, hygiene, and financial donations.

This year, Jen's commitment shone at our Farm-to-Fairway Golf Tournament, where she helped recruit one-third of all golfers! Their Grocery Outlet also raised funds for us through the Independence from Hunger campaign, supporting our Family Food Box program in West Sacramento.

Jen, thank you for your leadership, generosity, and longstanding commitment to strengthening our community. We’re proud to celebrate you! 💚

Look at this "gourd"-geous haul! 🎃

This month Yolo Food Bank's warehouse is looking a little orange. The aisles are filled with 20,000+ pounds of pumpkins, all harvested by our awesome volunteers, and are headed to different places in Yolo County. We are pleased to share the news that California is streamlining CalFresh enrollment for college students! 🙌

Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California has made it easier for eligible college students to get healthy, nutritious food. Now, every undergraduate college student enrolled in a degree program at a California Community College (CCC), California State University (CSU), or the University of California (UC) meets the initial application requirements for CalFresh, removing barriers that kept financially eligible students from even applying for the benefits they’re entitled to. Students can now apply to receive up to $306 a month for food and groceries!

"We can’t expect students to learn if they’re hungry, and in California, there is no reason for them to be, whether they’re in kindergarten, high school, or college. You shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to get the food benefits you’re entitled to, and now you don’t have to. Go apply now — you might be leaving money on the table." - Governor Gavin Newsom
