Library Friends received a resolution from the Board of Supervisors proclaiming October 18-24, 2026, as Friends of Libraries Week in Yolo County. Through fundraising efforts like book sales, membership and donation drives, tree sales, concerts, and participation in the Big Day of Giving, the various Friends of the Yolo County libraries donated over $250,000 to the library in 2025/26. These funds help purchase materials for the collection, including special collections like Lucky Day, Discovery Kits, Read Around Yolo Book Club Kits, newspaper subscriptions, and special formats like eBooks and eAudiobooks. In addition, Friends support critical services such as summer reading, adult and family literacy, and ESL classes. Each Friends group advocates for and raises awareness of library services, provides community engagement opportunities, and contributes volunteer time.

Please join Yolo County Library in thanking the Friends for all they do to make a positive impact on the library, and the community, every day. We get by with a LOT of help from our Friends.

Check out these neat engineering plans by Woodland and San Francisco inventor Byron Jackson from the ! Byron Jackson (1841-1921) was born in Ohio and moved to Yolo County in about 1865. By the fall of 1873, he had taken over the management of James Sibley’s planing mill and machine shop, located on the northeast corner of College and Oak Streets in Woodland, and began inventing various kinds of agricultural equipment and pumps.

In 1878, Jackson moved his business to San Francisco, where he continued to design and manufacture his inventions. The Jackson Machine Works was destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, and he retired shortly after. Some of his inventions are still in use today.

It's that time again! Join us on Friday in West Sac for our ever-popular pumpkin decorating party! Pumpkins and decorations provided while they last.

This event is very popular, and we don't want any kids going home disappointed, so please limit yourself to one pumpkin per child/teen. Adults who wish to decorate a pumpkin for themselves are welcome, but we ask that you wait until 4:30 to select one.
