Attention local veterans - the Veterans Assistance Commission of McHenry County is launching a yard sign campaign to help raise awareness for its services - and giving them a hand enters you into a drawing to win two Chicago Blackhawks tickets!

All you have to do is pick up a free sign at the VAC office (667 Ware Road, Woodstock), grab one or two signs, and place them in your yard to help spread the word. Each sign is one entry for a maximum of two per household, and you must be a veteran to be eligible for the drawing. The winner will be announced on Nov. 16.

You never know who might see your sign! It could be a veteran who needs help, a surviving spouse looking for benefits, or a military family searching for support. So take a sign, spread the word, and help make a difference!

Thank you to the McHenry Township Fire Protection District for their gracious invitation to attend the traditional push-in ceremony for the district's new ambulance!

Purchased through a $361,000 grant in 2022 from our program, the ambulance is filling a real need by addressing increased service calls - in fact, since its Oct. 15 dedication, the ambulance has already saved the life of a patient suffering a cardiac arrest!

The County Board wisely chose to invest half of its American Rescue Plan Act pandemic recovery funds - about $30 million - directly into purchases and projects like this one that have direct positive impacts to better the lives of our community residents.

With heavy hearts this morning, County employees solemnly assembled to pay their last respects as the funeral procession for retired Chief Judge Michael Sullivan passed by the courthouse that bears his name. Judge Sullivan, whose reputation for fairness and equality under the law was legendary, was a titan who left an indelible mark on McHenry County jurisprudence, from its modernization to the creation of specialty courts. He will truly be missed.
