Our deputies recently completed the Vermont Criminal Justice Council’s required annual Use of Force & Tactics training.
This training reinforces the principles we follow every day: use only the force that is objectively reasonable, necessary, and proportional; de-escalate whenever possible; and prioritize the safety of the public, our deputies, and everyone involved.
At the Windsor County Sheriff’s Department, ongoing training isn’t just a requirement — it’s how we stay prepared, accountable, and ready to serve our communities across Windsor County with professionalism and care.
Thank you to our deputies for their commitment to excellence and to the instructors who help keep our standards high.

Windsor County Sheriff’s Department
Our deputies are on the grounds this week providing security at the 154th Tunbridge World’s Fair.
The fair runs Thursday, September 17 through Sunday, September 20 at the Tunbridge Fairgrounds. Gates are 7 a.m.–8 p.m. today, 7 a.m.–9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Sunday.
If you’re heading out for ox pulls, Antique Hill, livestock shows, the midway, or school day on the grounds, please:
• Watch for pedestrians and kids in the parking lots and walkways
• Designate a sober driver
• Keep an eye on belongings in crowded areas
• Follow directions from deputies, fair staff, and parking crews
We’re proud to help keep this Vermont tradition safe so families can enjoy four days of agriculture, history, and community. Have a great fair — and if you need us, look for our deputies on the grounds.

National Police Canine Day | Honoring K9 Kye
Today we celebrate National Police Canine Day and one of the most dedicated members of the Windsor County Sheriff’s Department: K9 Kye.
While the rest of us clock in, grab coffee, and debate whose turn it is to write the report, Kye is already on duty. She doesn’t complain about overtime, never calls in “tired,” and somehow still has the energy for a full search, a school visit, and a victory lap around the parking lot. If dedication had a tail, it would be hers.
Partnered with Deputy Jackson Howe, Kye works narcotics detection, tracking, and article searches — and still finds time to be the department’s unofficial morale officer. She is, without question, the hardest-working member of the team. The two-legged staff would like it noted that we do try.
To Kye and police K9s everywhere: thank you for the nose, the heart, and the work that never clocks out. Windsor County is safer because of you.
Happy National Police Canine Day.

Back-to-School Traffic Safety PSA
Schools across Windsor County are open or opening this week. Our deputies will be strictly enforcing school speed zones. Slow down, stay alert, and give kids the space they need to get to class safely.
Drivers

Obey posted school-zone speed limits. In Vermont, the civil penalty for speeding in a designated school zone is double the normal fine.
Watch for children walking and biking to school, especially in the morning and afternoon.
Stop for school buses. When a bus is stopped and displaying flashing red lights with the stop arm extended, all traffic in both directions on undivided roads must stop and remain stopped until the lights go off and the arm is withdrawn. It is the law.

Parents and students — walk and bike safely

Walk in groups when you can.
Use sidewalks. If there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic and stay as far from the travel lane as possible.
Before you cross, make eye contact with drivers. Do not assume they see you.
Cross at marked crosswalks and corners. Look left, right, and left again.
Bicyclists: wear a helmet every ride, stay alert to traffic around you, ride with the flow of traffic, and stop and walk your bike across the street.

Safety starts with knowing how to stay safe — and with all of us looking out for one another. Please share this reminder with family and neighbors. Together we can keep Windsor County kids safe on the way to school.
