Today, we are celebrating 54 years of the Regional Environmental Council! 🎉

On this day in 1972, the Regional Environmental Council was established to fight the construction of a landfill in Green Hill Park. For the first 20 years, the REC was an all-volunteer effort to fight for clean air, clean water, and green spaces. Today, the REC employs over 20 staff members who work together with dozens of organizational partners, thousands of volunteers, and youth from across the city to create a just food system and to build healthy, sustainable, and equitable communities.

Thanks to the dedication & care of generations of change makers, our organization continues to foster community resilience here in Worcester. We look forward to continuing this tradition of collaboration, sustainability, and stewardship, together!
