Worcester County taxpayers beware. The Mass legislature is considering giving authority to cities and towns to impose a tax on real estate transfers which would go to the city or town that adopts it. We already pay a tax at the Registry of Deeds. on RE transfers base on the sales price that goes to the state and an additional fee to cities and towns that adopt the Community Preservation Act(1-3 per cent) The fees collected at the Registry of deeds are the highest in the US. Enough.

The Worcester Registry of Deeds is tremendously saddened by the passing of David R. Foley, a long-time staff member of the Registry of Deeds, on Tuesday January 20, 2015. We would like to extend our deepest condolences to David's family and friends. Registry staff and visitors will fondly remember David for his kindness, his dedication to his work, and especially for his sharp Irish wit.
David leaves his brother, Andrew M. Foley and his wife Kristie Foley, of Coventry, Conn.; many aunts, uncles, cousins and the cherished family of Rosemary Reis; her children and grandchildren. His father Attorney Martin J. Foley Jr. died in 2006. His mother E. Anne (Murphy) Foley died in 1985. David was born in Worcester and lived in Worcester all of his life. He graduated from Holy Name Central Catholic High School. In addition to the Registry of Deeds, David also worked as a meat cutter at the former Fortin's Market.
David was an avid fan of all New England sports teams and had a lifelong love of Cape Cod where his family had a home and many close friends. His greatest joy was time spent with family and friends.
Donations in David's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 495 Old Connecticut Path, Framingham, MA 01701.
