Kate Toomey insists she did nothing wrong and Joe Petty agrees. Without an independent investigation, it's just more of this.

Of course we should not be surprised that Joe Petty doesn't see anything wrong in the body camera footage. Despite frequent community pushback he has consistently appointed Toomey to oversee Public Safety for most of their time on Council together. It's also a good reminder that he called the police handling ng of June 2020 protests that injured protestorsl and got the city sued "good tactics."

We can't say for sure if Kate got preferential treatment but if she didn't it wasn't for lack of trying! This is a direct quote from her name dropping friend and supporter Sergeant Anthony Petrone. Meanwhile she was treated like a confused old lady and not someone who just allegedly tried to flee the scene of a hit and run.

Kate Toomey has been Public Safety chair for the better part of a decade. She's consistently worked for the police and not the public. The fact that they didn't let her cash in the favors she was trying to doesn't make it any less unethical. Temporary leave is not enough. Toomey has shown she can't be trusted with that power.
