๐ School Committee Recognizes Southโs Apricot Journal Students ๐
The Worcester School Committee formally recognized the talented students of South High Community Schoolโs literary magazine, The Apricot Journal! ๐โจ
They recently earned a First Class Distinction at the 2025 REALM Awards (Recognizing Excellence in Arts and Literacy Magazines) from the National Council of Teachers of English. Out of 456 nominations nationwide, our South High students were one of only 135 magazines to receive this top-tier honor! ๐๐

Weโre proud to introduce Osiris Janette Del Cid Amezquita as this yearโs Valedictorian! ๐
The name Osiris means โpowerfulโ or โmighty,โ and she has embodied that meaning throughout her high school journey. With quiet strength, determination, and grace, Osiris has met every challenge with focus, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
A scholar, athlete, leader, and mentor, Osiris has set a high standard for her peers while consistently lifting others up. Her accomplishments include National Honor Society, the Harvard Book Award, Seal of Biliteracy with Distinction, AP Scholar with Honors, QuestBridge Scholarship Finalist, leadership in Student Government and the Student Superintendent Advisory Council, and captaincy in Track & Field.
Beyond accolades, she leads through service โ volunteering, mentoring, and giving back to her community with heart and purpose. Her impact is defined not by recognition, but by action.
This fall, Osiris will attend Boston College to study neuroscience, continuing her journey of excellence and purpose.

Burncoat High School Senior Award Breakfast ๐
On the final day of school for WPS seniors, the Burncoat High School community gathered to celebrate the Class of 2026 during its Senior Award Breakfast!
More than 30 scholarships were awarded, and seniors were recognized for achievements in academics, the arts, and civic leadership.
The celebration also highlighted students who earned Medical Interpreter Certification through UMass Medical School, completed Early College credits, achieved AP Scholar recognition, graduated from Innovation Career Pathways programs, and completed one of Burncoatโs Arts Magnet programs.
After the ceremony, seniors enjoyed a breakfast prepared by Principal Joe Ewick and Dean of Students Mr. Falcucci, with additional donations generously provided by Burncoat families.
The morning also gave seniors a chance to pick up caps and gowns, sign yearbooks, celebrate class superlatives, and share one final day together before graduation.

๐ Worcester Public Schools continues to lead the way in Early College opportunities!
This week at Worcester Technical High School, Massachusetts Education Secretary Stephen Zrike announced the largest expansion of Early College partnerships in state history. WPS has grown Early College participation from 714 students in 2023 to 1,362 students in 2026.
Through Early College Worcester, students can earn free college credits while still in high school through partnerships with Quinsigamond Community College and Worcester State University. This year, 100 WPS seniors are graduating with 12 or more college credits already completed.
We're proud to help students save time, reduce college costs, and build a strong foundation for future success.
