"While the SWM proposal includes funding for Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) caseworkers that would likely maintain the same number of caseworkers as the end of 2025, increased funding is needed to ensure the DTA staff can keep up with increased demand. Staff capacity to adequately serve clients that need support applying for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and other federally funded human services may affect the federal funding the Commonwealth gets to serve vulnerable populations for years to come"

Last month, Center on Food Equity and Coalition for a Healthy Greater Worcester joined 10 food policy councils across the Commonwealth to highlight the importance of hiring more DTA/SNAP caseworkers. Our action was highlighted in the Massachusetts Food System Collaborative newsletter, with a quote from our Co-director, Casey Burns. This funding is vital to ensuring access to SNAP for all of our Central Mass neighbors. In a time of rising food insecurity and unprecedented inflation, SNAP is more important than ever.

The House just passed a deeply flawed and harmful Farm Bill. It does nothing to reverse the damage done by the July OBBA, and instead deepens and perpetuates the harm for years to come.
