Eastern York Middle School Principal: Mr. Bill Ackerman
Assistant Principal: Mr. Cory Ilgenfritz York County has been growing at a rapid rate. Eastern is no exception.

Most school districts have experienced some growth and many have initiated some type of building project. Since the 1986-87 school year, our student population has increased by 354 students. By the end of 1995, all of our buildings were over 100% of their rated educational capacity. In 1989, the Eastern York Board of School Directors recognized that this problem would occur in the future and authorized a Demographic and Physical Plant Feasibility Study to be undertaken by BASCO Associates in the spring. That action touched off the following series of events. Fall of 1989...The BASCO report was presented to the Board in October of 1989 and recommended the building of a middle school to house grades 6, 7, and 8 in order to take the pressure off of each elementary school by removing grade 6 and reduce overcrowding at the Junior/Senior High School by removing grades 7 and 8. 1990...The district investigated the possibility of building a school through privatization, whereby an independent company would build the building and lease it to the school district. The Pennsylvania Department of Education ruled that this type of an arrangement would violate state laws regarding the construction bidding process. March of 1991...The Board selected the architectural firm of Bradley, Chambers, and Frey, of Lancaster, to begin design of the building. 1992-June of 1993...The project was put "on hold" as district growth slowed drastically. July of 1993...District growth resumed, planning began again, and design of the building was finalized. Spring of 1994...Bid documents were prepared and bid specifications released to interested bidders. October of 1994...Construction began. September of 1995...The building was opened for student use. With the addition of this facility, the district should be able to handle expected growth for the foreseeable future. Further, the middle school has been designed to accommodate an addition of classrooms for 400 students that become necessary.

Only 24 hours before we launch Fall Fest '26 at The Middle sponsored by EYMS Student Council!
Come join us for food trucks, games, a DJ, dancing, and all kinds of family fun! This is not a "middle school student" event - this is a middle school FAMILY event, so bring your middle schooler AND their siblings, parents, grandparents, guardians, aunts, uncles - the more, the merrier!
(Please note: this is NOT a "drop-off" event - students are expected to be accompanied by at least one adult family member)

Food trucks include:
Graceful Grounds - coffee and goodies (including breakfast sandwiches - can you say "breakfast for dinner"?!)

Dandelion Thyme - Pulled Pork, Loaded Crab Fries, Cheeseburgers, and more!

Kona Ice - Sweet frozen treats!

We can't wait to see you and enjoy this beautiful fall weather while it lasts! And don't worry, if the weather doesn't cooperate, we will move it all inside! (well, except the food trucks - they gotta stay outside...)

STRIKING THE RIGHT NOTE
In celebration of National Arts and Education Week, weโ€™re proud to highlight the incredible accomplishments of three Eastern York students!

Congratulations to Braelyn Miller (Eastern York High School, Grade 9), who was selected for a violin seat in the York Youth Symphony Orchestra (YYSO) for the 2026โ€“27 season!

We also recognize Alexander Eveler (Violin, Eastern York Middle School, Grade 6) for earning a place in the York Junior Symphony Orchestra (YJSO), and Emma Eveler (Cello, Kreutz Creek Elementary School, Grade 4) for being selected for the York Junior Symphony Orchestra Preparatory String Orchestra (YJSO Prep).

All three of these ensembles โ€” YYSO, YJSO, and YJSO Prep โ€” require a successful audition, making this an outstanding achievement. We are so proud of these Golden Knights for representing Eastern York with their talent, dedication, and love for music. It's a great DAY to be a KNIGHT!

Today, The Middle invited our HS family, along with the entire maintenance and custodial crew, down to enjoy a good ol' fashioned cookout, and what a rousing success it was! Middle school teachers and staff prepped, grilled, and brought in a variety of delicious offerings to share with our friends "on top of the hill", as they continue to show their resilience and fortitude in the face of unexpected challenges. SPECIAL thanks to Wegmans of Lancaster, who graciously donated all the fresh burgers, hot dogs, buns, and cases of water for the event!
Heck, we had so much fun, maybe this will become an annual event! (minus the weather, please...)
Today was a great day to be a Golden Knight!

IT'S STILL A GREAT DAY TO BE A KNIGHT!
After adjusting our original opening day plans, we were proud to officially welcome back our entire Eastern York staff this morning with a special gathering at the middle school!

It was a great morning to welcome our newest Golden Knights, recognize staff members for their years of dedicated service, and come together as one team as we prepare for another great year serving the students and families of Eastern York.

The past few days may have changed our plans, but they certainly havenโ€™t changed who we are or what weโ€™re here to do. Itโ€™s a GREAT DAY to be a Golden Knight!
