Wylie Fire Rescue assisted in the laying to rest of former WFR Fire Chief A.B. Simmons.

A.B. had a long and distinguished history with Wylie Fire Rescue, serving our department for many years from 1958 through 1978.

During that time, he served in numerous roles, including firefighter, captain, secretary-treasurer, and Fire Chief from 1966 to 1968. He was also instrumental in purchasing The General from the City of Dallas, an important part of Wylie Fire Rescue’s history that remains with us today.

Our thoughts and Prayers are with A.B’s family.

Yesterday was a day this family won’t soon forget.

Earlier in the day, Wylie Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at their home. Thankfully, everyone made it out safely.

But yesterday was also their son’s 8th birthday. 🎂

So today, we invited the family to spend some time with us at the fire station and make sure his birthday still had a little something special in it. 🚒❤️

It may not have been the birthday they had planned, but we were honored to celebrate with him and help put a few smiles back on their faces.

Happy 8th Birthday! We hope you had a great time with us! 🎉

Never Forget. 🇺🇸

This morning, 19 members of Wylie Fire Rescue took part in the OKC 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, climbing in honor and memory of the firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

This climb is especially meaningful because participants also climb in memory of those who lost their lives aboard the planes that day. Because of that, several of our Wylie Fire Rescue family members were able to take part alongside us and experience this powerful tribute firsthand.

With every step, we remember.
With every step, we honor.
And with every step, we promise to Never Forget.

We promised to never forget. 🇺🇸

Twenty-five years later, many of us can still remember exactly where we were when we heard the news on September 11, 2001. We remember the disbelief, the fear, the images, and the firefighters and first responders who ran toward the danger while others were running away.

But with each passing year, there are more people among us who weren’t even born that day.

That’s why remembering matters.

We remember the 2,977 lives lost, the families forever changed, and the 343 members of the FDNY who made the ultimate sacrifice. We remember the courage, the sacrifice, and the unity that followed.

And we will continue to tell the story—so those who weren’t there can understand, remember, and never forget.

This photo was taken by Jules Naudet on September 11, 2001. 8:45am. Jules and his brother had been riding out with FDNY filming a documentary.

25 years later. We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

This morning, several Wylie Fire Rescue firefighters joined first responders from across Texas for the Dallas 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. The firefighters climbed 110 floors in full bunker gear, each carrying a name to symbolically complete the climb with one of the fallen.

This year marks 25 years since September 11, 2001, a day that forever changed our nation and the fire service. As we remember the 343 firefighters, 70 law enforcement officers, and 9 EMS workers who made the ultimate sacrifice, their courage, service, and sacrifice continue to inspire us. Their memory will never be forgotten.
