This week, Mount Rogers Connect took Bland County Public Schools freshmen to Ballad Health Smyth County Community Hospital to learn about the many different healthcare fields in the region! Students toured the facility, visited radiology, and heard presentations from different departments including OR, nursing, pharmacy, lab, PT, OT, and RT. They also enjoyed lunch sponsored by Ballad. Last week, Mount Rogers Connect took Wythe County Public Schools / Wythe County Technology Center WCTC students to three facilities to learn about different manufacturing career opportunities in their home community! Participants toured JST Power Equipment, Wabtec Corporation, and Coperion, giving them the chance to see a variety of different facilities and hear from staff about what it's like to work in each. Thank you to the leaders and staff who spent time with our future workforce, and to Wabtec for sponsoring lunch!

Yesterday was Day 5 of Twin County Manufacturing Excellence! Students started at Crossroads Institute, where they learned about the job application process and created their own resumes. Philip Altizer of Real Performance Machinery presented on employer expectations. After lunch, they traveled to Turman Hardwood Flooring for a tour of the facility. Thank you to the staff who led the tour and spoke with students about jobs in the lumber industry!

Yesterday, Mount Rogers Connect took Carroll County VA Public Schools Carroll County High School CTE students to tour two manufacturing facilities in the Hillsville area. First, students learned about agriculture in manufacturing at Virginia Produce Company, Inc. Participants then toured Mohawk Industries, which included a presentation on workplace safety expectations. Thank you to the staff who spent time with these students!

For Day Four of Twin County Manufacturing Excellence, the cohort visited Real Performance Machine (RPM) in Independence. In addition to touring the facility and learning about the company and the careers and opportunities it offers, students received vital safety training in practices such as Lock Out/Tag Out. Yesterday, Mount Rogers Connect took Galax City Public Schools and Grayson County Public Schools, VA students to tour healthcare facilities in the region! First up was Galax Health and Rehab, followed by a tour of the Wytheville Community College nursing Sim Lab at Crossroads Institute. Students enjoyed lunch before heading to Healthcare Academy of SWVA to round out the day.
Thank you to the staff who offered up their time to provide tours and information to the next generation of healthcare workers!

This week, students participating in Twin County Manufacturing Excellence spent the third week of the program at Wytheville Community College. They toured the Industrial Maintenance program and trained on Metrology for their NC3 certification. After enjoying lunch sponsored by WCC, students toured Machining and then trained on hand tools and torque to receive their Snap-On certification.
MRRP is grateful to our wonderful partners at WCC for taking the time to work closely with TCME students and help set them up for career success upon graduation!

This week, Mount Rogers Connect took students from Wythe County Public Schools, Wythe County Technology Center WCTC to Camrett Logistics, Clarke Precision Machine, and AQ Transformer Solutions. They toured facilities, got an up-close look at machines and processes, and learned about careers in logistics, machining, and manufacturing. Thank you to the staff at all of these facilities who took the time to educate the next generation of workforce, and a special thank-you to AQ Transformers for providing lunch!
