Meet Your Responders! πŸš‘

Heath started at North Country EMS in May of 2023 after completing EMT school. He is one of our residents and is currently finishing paramedic school so he can advance his EMS career. People like working with Heath on the ambulance because he is smart, thoughtful, and funny - all the hallmarks of a great partner.

Somehow, Heath finds time to have a life outside of EMS and enjoys basement raves, inline skating, and professional arm wrestling.

β€œI love being a resident EMT because every paramedic partner acts as a teacher as I go through paramedic school.”

Don’t forget to say hello to Heath if you see him out there!

Fall Is Here! Stay Safe & Stay Healthy!

As the seasons change, cooler temperatures, shorter days, wet roads and trails, and changing weather conditions are returning to our area.

A few reminders from North Country EMS as we head into fall:

Be Weather Ready: Fall weather can change quickly. Check the forecast before heading outdoors and dress in layers.

Watch Your Step & Slow Down: Rain, wet leaves, mud, and early frost can make roads, sidewalks, and trails slippery.

Prepare for Shorter Days: Carry a flashlight or headlamp when hiking or recreating outdoors, even if you plan to be back before dark.

Flu Season Is Approaching: Help protect yourself and those around you. Wash your hands regularly, cover coughs and sneezes, stay home when you’re sick, and consider getting your seasonal flu vaccine.

Drive for the Conditions: Rain, fog, darkness, and fallen leaves can reduce visibility and traction. Slow down and give yourself extra stopping distance.

Enjoy everything fall has to offer, but plan ahead and stay prepared.

From all of us at North Country EMS, have a safe and healthy fall! πŸš‘πŸ‚

Throwback Thursday!

In 1982, at the request of logging companies, NCEMS began a two-year project operating an emergency medical unit in the volcano timber salvage area of Mount St. Helens. Following that project, NCEMS began operating Pine Creek Station seasonally in 1986. Each summer, seasonal EMTs staff Pine Creek from the beginning of July through the end of August, providing emergency medical coverage as recreational activity increases in and around the Mount St. Helens area.

Interested in joining the next Pine Creek crew? Applications are accepted from January through March. Visit our website to learn more and apply.

Meet Your Responders! πŸš‘

Naomi joined North Country EMS in early 2024 as a Pine Creeker and has continued to serve as an EMT and resident. North Country is her first EMS job but she was a fire cadet in high school and gained experience in emergency response through that program. Naomi is an enthusiastic part of the team and always shows up with a smile, ready to work.

β€œI really love Pine Creek specifically because of the diversity of calls and because we get to be in nature for extended amounts of time.”

When she’s not working, Naomi spends time traveling, hiking, running, and hanging out with her family.

We love having Naomi around and appreciate all she brings to the agency!

NCEMS and Pine Creek Medic 53 have been in full swing with a few more weeks left in the season. Our providers have been busy responding to both routine and emergency calls on and around Mount St. Helens. They also spend time on training, area familiarization, and patrolling the area to ensure that locals and visitors have a safe time on the mountain.

🌑️ It's going to be a hot one this weekend! Before you head outside, a few reminders from your friends at NCEMS to keep you and yours safe:
πŸ’§ Drink water ... early and often. Don't wait until you're thirsty. Skip the alcohol and sugary drinks when you're out in the heat.
🌳 Find the shade and AC. Take breaks indoors or in the shade, and try to save hard outdoor work for the cooler morning hours.
🐾 Don't forget the pets. Fresh water, shade, and never leave them in a parked car ... even for a minute. If the pavement's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.
πŸ‘΅ Check on the people who need it. Older neighbors, folks who live alone, and anyone without air conditioning. A quick call or knock on the door makes a difference.
πŸš— Never leave kids or pets in vehicles. Temperatures inside a car climb dangerously fast.

Know the warning signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke: heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, headache, confusion, or hot/dry skin. If someone seems to be in trouble, get them cool and call 911, we're here around the clock.

Stay cool and look out for each other.
