It’s been a busy time at our training center these past couple of months! We recently had a Rope Rescue Operations class with several members of YFD and Nile-Cliffdell Fire Rescue in attendance.

Did you know? Your Yakima firefighters are part of the areas only tech rescue team along with Federal Firefighters of Yakima IAFF Local F-295, who attend monthly tech rescue drills at Yakima Station 95. Yakima Fire Department has 3 instructors who can certify members to the Rescue 3 International standards. All YFD members of the Tech Rescue Team must become technician level within 2 years of joining the team. YFD currently has 18 tech rescue team members to ensure coverage among all 3 shifts.

In addition to these rope classes, the tech rescue team is also responsible for: confined space rescue, swiftwater rescue, and trench and structural collapse rescue to name a few. These individuals are highly trained in a wide variety of disciplines to ensure YFD is ready to respond to any and all emergencies!

A couple pics from a recent structure fire. Crews were able to contain the fire quickly to limit the spread throughout the home.

Today a very special plaque was revealed. This plaque honors those professional and dedicated Washington Fire Mechanics that left this world too soon. Take a moment to stop and read the names this week.

Never Forget.

09/11/2026

On this day, 25 years ago, 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work the next morning. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. None of them saw past 10:00 a.m. on September 11, 2001.

In a single moment, life can change forever. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today, and as you prepare for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, hold them a little tighter, and never take a single second for granted.

Never forget
