Apple harvest is one of the busiest and most exciting times in the Yakima Valley! I enjoyed getting a firsthand look at the work happening behind the scenes at Matson Fruit Company! 🍏🚜🍎

I continue to be amazed by the science, planning, technology and investment that goes into getting apples from orchard to markets around the world.

Thank you to the Matson Fruit Company team for the tour and your continued investment in Yakima County!

In 2023 we presented Barbara Harrer from the Town of Harrah with the Key-to-the County 🗝 and Lifetime of Service 📢 award which is the HIGHEST honor an individual can receive from the Board of Yakima County Commissioners.

She was an amazing public servant, dedicated Mayor and mentor to so many. She will be greatly missed.

Thank you Association of Washington Cities for highlighting our community icon. 🙏

This Saturday, October 10, will be the celebration of life for Barbara Harrer—whose tenure as mayor of the Town of Harrah from 1977 through 2023 made her the longest-serving mayor in the state of Washington.

Mayor Harrer was known for her hard work, collaborative nature, and ability to see projects through. In the summer 2022 issue of Cityvoice, she advised city leaders to: "lead by listening, do your homework, and always think before you talk."

Last week, I had a great time joining the South Central Workforce Board retreat and connecting with partners from across the region.

We spent the day talking about workforce trends, future opportunities, and how we can better prepare people for the jobs our communities need.

A big thank you to Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences for hosting us and giving us a firsthand look at their healthcare training programs.

I recently had the opportunity to visit Roza Dam and get a closer look at an important piece of infrastructure serving the Yakima Valley and Yakima Basin Integrated Plan.

Infrastructure like this is easy to take for granted, but it plays a critical role in supporting our communities, agriculture, and local economy. Investing in and maintaining the infrastructure we depend on today helps ensure a strong Yakima County for generations to come.
