❓FAQ: What is a Home Study?

If you’re thinking about becoming a foster parent, you may have heard the term “home study” and wondered what it means.

A home study is a required part of becoming a licensed foster parent. Its purpose is to help determine whether your family can provide a safe, healthy, and supportive environment a child in foster care.

During the home study, your licensor will learn more about your family, including areas such as:
🏡 Your home environment
❤️ Relationships and family dynamics
👨‍👩‍👧 Parenting experience
🤝 Your support system
💰 Finances and overall stability

The goal isn't to find a “perfect” family. It's about understanding your family and making sure your home is prepared to support a child or youth who needs a safe place to belong.

Thinking about becoming a foster parent? You don't have to have everything figured out before you start. We're here to help you understand the process, answer your questions, and take the next step with you.
