Today, we recognize Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates the enduring value of freedom.

As we reflect on this important chapter in our nation’s history, we honor the generations whose perseverance helped advance the cause of freedom and recognize the many contributions that continue to strengthen our communities and our country.

The Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities has launched My Money, a new online resource that brings together financial education materials, fraud prevention information, and consumer assistance resources in one place. The site offers guidance on topics ranging from higher education and homeownership to retirement and unexpected financial challenges, while helping Pennsylvanians recognize, avoid, and report scams and fraud. Users can access the resource at pa.gov/MyMoney, where they can find educational tools, publications, state and federal resources, and information about contacting the department’s Consumer Help Center for assistance.

Regular readers remember and recognize the Hershey Kiss Committee. A group of then-Newtown Middle School students wrote legislation to declare the Hershey Kiss the state candy of Pennsylvania. Those students have now finished their freshman year of college, and they’re still at it. Cameron and Audrey joined Miss Kiss at the Capitol to encourage the PA Senate to pass the already-passed-in-the-House Hershey Kiss bill.

Congratulations to Lower Makefield resident and Holy Ghost Prep alum Aiden Robbins on helping the Texas Baseball team advance to the College World Series.

The tournament begins Friday, and Aiden will be back in action Saturday when the Longhorns take on Georgia.
