Animal Control is being done different as long as I am your Animal Control officer and I promised to be the the voice to our animals therefore:

I will not be taking our animals to MARL to be euthanized unless its the only humane thing to do due to illness and/or injuries; also unless they are aggressive and will not be safe to go to someone's home.

Every other animal rather its a stray, owner surrender, dumped, etc. Will be finding forever homes. I decided i will be partnering with local shelters and no kill shelters. If you have a request for a pet we will help even before they leave our facility.

As of the immediate if you take one from us you are responsible for their rabies & vaccines, we will set up the vet appointment and we will request you to take the animal and email us proof that you did so and also for them to be fixed or you can work through a rescue if you wish we can figure that out together.

Its not much change: after the stray hold of 7 days for most of our intake animals they was always available for anyone who wanted to inquire for one... our owner surrender animals have no hold on them, but i do hold them for at least 24-48 hours incase the family decides they made the wrong decision. - you was always allowed to come adopt a pet from us, we just can charge a adoption fee and that continues to stay the same at this time.

We have submitted a proposal to allow us to vaccine and adopt out and bring in money but until approval we are requiring you to get those vaccines and to spray/neuter the animals you get and show us documentations so we know our animals are cared for. Help me fight for our animals and be their voice.

And yes they can fire me and ill be okay ...

But I wouldn't be the voice for the voiceless if all I do is rescue them and not even give them a chance to find their furever home, a chance to know what its like to be loved, I wouldn't be holding the promise to the community that I promised and I will not be hiding behind it. I will work day and night for a change and thats exactly the plan for our animal welfare.

YAZOO CITY ANIMAL CONTROL — OFFICIAL TRAPPING POLICY

Please read carefully before setting a trap for any animal within the City of Yazoo City.

Yazoo City Animal Control is responsible for responding to animal-related complaints and handling animals in accordance with applicable laws, city ordinances, and Animal Control procedures.

PRIVATELY SET TRAPS

Animal Control Officers will not routinely take possession of, transport, or assume responsibility for animals caught in traps that were set by residents or other unauthorized individuals.

There is an important reason for this policy.

When a trap is set by someone other than Animal Control, the City cannot verify:

• If the trap has any imperfections, dents, rust
• Who placed the trap or where it was placed
• When the trap was set
• Whether it was properly placed and secured
• Whether the trap is appropriate for the animal
• How long the animal has been confined
• Whether the animal was injured before or after being trapped
• Whether the animal is someone's owned pet
• Who was responsible for monitoring the trap

Once an Animal Control Officer takes possession of a privately set trap and the animal inside it, questions of custody, responsibility, animal welfare, and potential liability for the City can arise.

DO NOT SET A TRAP AND THEN EXPECT ANIMAL CONTROL TO TAKE OVER THE SITUATION.

If you believe an animal needs to be trapped, contact Yazoo City Animal Control BEFORE setting the trap.

An ACO can evaluate the complaint and determine whether trapping is appropriate and what procedure should be followed.

WHEN ANIMAL CONTROL SETS THE TRAP

When an Animal Control Officer determines that a trap should be used and sets the trap as part of an official response, the officer maintains responsibility for monitoring and responding to that trap and for properly handling the animal captured.

The person who sets the trap must be prepared to accept responsibility for monitoring and dealing with the animal caught in it.

For that reason, residents should never set a trap and assume Animal Control will automatically pick it up afterward.

WHY THIS POLICY MATTERS

This policy protects:

• The animal from unnecessary injury or prolonged confinement
• Residents from situations they may not be equipped to handle
• Animal Control Officers from unsafe or unknown circumstances
• The City from assuming responsibility for traps it did not authorize or establish
• The community by ensuring animal complaints are handled through a consistent procedure

Calling Animal Control first is the correct procedure.

We are not refusing to help. We are establishing a responsible process for helping.

If you have an animal concern, report it to Yazoo City Animal Control so an officer can evaluate the situation and determine the appropriate course of action.

ANIMAL CONTROL IS MORE THAN JUST A “DOG CATCHER.”

When people hear Animal Control, they sometimes picture someone driving around catching stray dogs. But the truth is, animal control is about so much more than that.

Today’s call was a perfect example.

A resident contacted Animal Control because an armadillo had made its way into their yard and was digging a hole right beside their home.

It may seem like a small call to some, but to that resident, it was a problem that needed help. Animal Control responded, assessed the situation, and worked to safely get the animal out of the area.

That is part of what we do.

🐕 Stray and roaming animals
🦔 Wildlife creating problems around homes
🐄 Livestock concerns
🚨 Animal-related public safety calls
💔 Injured or deceased animals
💧 Animals without proper food, water, shade, or shelter
❤️ Welfare and neglect concerns
🏠 Helping residents understand responsible animal ownership
📚 Educating our community about animal laws and safety
🤝 And sometimes simply helping a resident who doesn't know where else to turn

Animal Control isn't just about catching animals.

It's about protecting the community, protecting animals, responding to concerns, educating residents, preventing problems, and finding solutions.

Some calls are serious. Some are heartbreaking. Some are routine. And some involve an armadillo digging a hole beside someone's house.

But every call matters to someone.

So the next time you see Animal Control out in the community, remember:
We're not just “dog catchers.” We're here to serve both the people and the animals of our community.

Yazoo City Animal Control — serving our community, one call at a time.
