Meet Dot – YSPD's new Service Dog In Training!

Q: Welcome to the team, Dot! Tell us a little about yourself.
A: I was born on May 29, 2026, as a proud member of the Lego Litter. Before joining the department, I spent the last several weeks learning the ropes in the 4 Paws For Ability Prison Program (https://www.4pawsforability.org/prison/). Now I'm ready to bring my best puppy energy to YSPD!

Q: What attracted you to working for the Village of Yellow Springs and YSPD?
A: I heard they were looking for a super-smart, highly-observant team member who excels at keeping an eye on things!

Q: If you weren’t in this line of work, what would you be doing?
A: I’d probably be working undercover as a full-time tennis ball retriever.

Q: What’s one fun fact about you?
A: I am a multi-talented trickster! Not only do I know sit, down, high five, shake, roll over, place, and "sit pretty" (when you hold your hand flat above my head), but I can also spin in both directions on command – just point your finger and tell me "spin" clockwise or counter-clockwise!

Q: What’s your go-to productivity hack?
A: Two words: Pupperoni Sticks. Who needs productivity hacks when I'll do just about anything you want me to as quickly as you want me to so long as I get one of these delicacies!

Q: Any other hobbies or activities you enjoy outside of work?
A: I love playing outside, fetching tennis balls, working on puzzle toys, and occasionally getting a bit too distracted wanting to play with other dogs during training sessions!

Q: What are you most excited about in your new role?
A: Meeting all the wonderful Village staff, perfecting my leash walking and public manners, and getting lots of quality cuddle time with my new human coworkers!

ATTENTION VILLAGERS:

It was recently brought to our attention that scammers are once again sending emails to some residents impersonating Village staff members.

A good indicator that you have received a scam email is any request for money via a wire transfer. While Village staff will accept credit card payments over the phone, staff will NEVER email you requesting that you submit payment via a wire transfer.

If you do receive a suspicious email claiming to be from a Village staff member, please take the following steps:

1. First, examine the email address from which it was sent. All official Village email addresses end in .gov. Additionally, note that all staff email addresses following the same convention of first and last name, followed by the aforementioned .gov domain. DO NOT correspond with any email address that does not adhere to this convention yet claims to be from the Village.

2. Second, DO NOT open any attachments from a suspicious email address. Doing so will likely expose your computer to any number of security risks. DELETE the email right away, both from your Inbox and your Trash folder.

3. Third, scammers can easily obtain official-looking Village logos from the internet. Just because an email has the Village logo DOES NOT mean that it is legitimate correspondence, Again, carefully examine the address from which the email was sent.

4. Lastly, please contact the Village at 937-767-7202 if you are uncertain about the authenticity of an email claiming to be from Village staff. Also, be sure to report any suspicious emails you receive that claim to be from a Village staff member.

Thank you for your time and attention. Be alert and stay safe!

HEADS UP, VILLAGERS!

08/07/2026

That's a wrap on this year's Safety Village! This week, kindergarteners and 1st graders from the village learned about how to be safe at home, around electricity, with traffic and pedestrians, on the bus, at the pool, and so much more.

Thank you to our friends at Mills Park Hotel for once again sponsoring this beloved program. We'd also like to thank the Village of Yellow Springs; the YS Electric Department; Samantha Stewart and her team at Gaunt Park Pool; Miami Township Fire-Rescue; Yellow Springs Schools; all of our presenters and volunteers; our YSPD staff; and a special shoutout to YSPD Community Outreach Specialist Danny Steck for making it all happen! We'll see you in 2027.
