Have you peeped enough leaves yet this fall? Check out these gorgeous images captured in Glen Helen Nature Preserve just this week. On the trails, it was raining yellow leaves through the sunshine and paths are crunchy, emitting an earthly autumn leaf scent.

TBT: A 70-year-old image celebrating the start of our Outdoor Education Center, accompanied by its original caption: "Some of the first campers at the new Glen Helen School Camp, land laboratory opened in November enjoyed a geology lesson during their three-day stay in the all-weather camp. Showing the group rock formations were counselors, left to right, Chuck Holtzer and Peter Lentz. The camp occupying 75 acres of the glen were made possible by gifts of more than $60,000 from individuals and foundations interested in outdoor education."

Recently Development Manager, Tracey Tackett, and Outdoor Education Center Director, Robyn Wright, were able to attend the Springfield Foundation 2026 Annual Donor Reception in downtown Springfield. We are thankful for the Foundation’s continued partnership in support of the mission that keeps kids engaged in the natural wonders of the Glen.

Did you know that many owls prefer to live in old dead trees? At the Raptor Center we simulate their natural habitat as best as we can while taking into account each bird's unique physical needs that keeps them here with us rather than out in the wild. Check out Magnus on his favorite tree and Pumpkin inside his! Visit these, and all the rest of our birds, during education hours Saturday and Sunday from 11am-2pm!

TBT: Impressionist photographer Axel Bahnsen captured this atmospheric image of a bridge across the Yellow Springs Creek, circa 1940. We are getting ready to replace the current bridge in that location, which will be a project for 2027.

Despite their tendency to be hit by cars, we don't get many vultures admitted into our rehab clinic so when we have FOUR at one time, it is pretty big news for these beautiful birds! Even better, three of them are now flying well enough that we opened the connecting doors between two enclosures to give them more space!

Here at Glen Helen we challenge you to love ALL the birds, even the scavengers!
