Yerington/Mason Valley Fire Protection District

HUGE THANK YOU TO LYON COUNTY!

Mason Valley Fire Protection District, one of four fire districts within Lyon County, is incredibly grateful to announce that between the four fire districts, we have been awarded over $1.4 million in grant funding through the Nevada Health Authority Rural Health Transformation EMS Grant!

This incredible milestone is 100% & solely due because of the hard work of Lyon County leadership.
A massive thank you goes out to:
• Lyon County Emergency Management
• Lyon County Human Services
• Lyon County Comptroller
• Lyon County Manager
• And especially, the Lyon County Board of Commissioners!

In reality, our fire districts only had to submit our "wish list" to Taylor Allison, Celeste MacFarland, and Shayla Holmes with Lyon County—and they stepped up to do all of the heavy lifting to secure these funds.

Because the four fire districts serving Lyon County operate as their own independent governmental entities under Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS), Lyon County was under absolutely no obligation to secure this funding for us. Despite any misconceptions that the County doesn't support its fire districts, this action proves the exact opposite.
This massive achievement shows just how deeply committed Lyon County is to its fire districts and to ensuring we have the resources needed to provide the absolute best emergency services possible to all citizens and visitors of Lyon County.

Thank you, Lyon County, for standing with your first responders!

District Fire Chief

On July 14th, at approximately 630pm, we received a report of a structure fire located in East Mason Valley. Two young men, riding their dirt bikes in the area, spotted a house fire and took action. One called 911, while the other knocked on the door to alert the resident. The resident was unaware of the emergency happening and safely made it outside the structure.

We are proud of the actions that Miles and Kai took!
Another nearby neighbor William C. arrived prior to our arrival and began extinguishing the fire.

We want to applaud their willingness to take action.!

We appreciate all community members that are willing to help out their neighbors!

The Yerington Main Street Committee has officially achieved Main Street America Accredited Status, one of the highest recognitions available for Main Street programs in the nation! We are proud to be recognized in the recent press release from the Governor’s Office of Economic Development highlighting Nevada’s accredited Main Street programs.

This achievement reflects the hard work, partnerships, volunteerism, and community pride that continue to move Yerington forward. Accreditation confirms that the Yerington Main Street Committee is meeting rigorous national standards in organization, economic vitality, design, and promotion.

What makes this accomplishment even more significant is that many Main Street programs take approximately five years to achieve Accredited Status and Yerington accomplished this milestone in just three years.

During the City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 26th, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development’s Shari Davis presented the Yerington Main Street Committee with its official Main Street America Accredited certificate. The City of Yerington and Yerington Main Street Committee President Scott Draper also recognized Executive Director Melanie Young Pinkerton for her success and dedication in advancing the Yerington Main Street Committee to the Main Street America Accredited Designation.

This recognition belongs to the entire community and all those who continue to support revitalization, beautification, small businesses, arts, tourism, and economic development efforts in Yerington.

And the best part… this is only the beginning.
