Thanks to everyone who joined us for our final Volunteer Community Work Day of the season! It was beautiful and blustery at the summit this morning!

Did you know? 👀 The shrubland here at the summit is an actively managed 15-acre habitat that provides food and shelter to many wild neighbors. Early successional forest and shrublands make up a small percentage of conservation land in New England. For certain animal species, like snowshoe hare and American woodcock, these habitats are vital for survival!

Thank you for an incredible season in the Lodge. We saw over 3500 visitors this summer, and that doesn't even include programs or field trips! You TURTLEY blew us away! 🐢

We're open to school groups for a few more weeks before we hunker down for our winter brumation. We're so thankful to be part of your nature connection. See you next year!

On November 1, join Mount Agamenticus and Great Works Regional Land Trust staff for a hike from Orris Falls Conservation Area to the summit of Mount A! We’ll connect to the Mount Agamenticus trail system via the Checkerberry Trail on Emery’s Bridge Road. Spend the day exploring the varied trails of Mount Agamenticus. We’ll journey down old logging roads, ski trails, and alongside stone walls, foundations and rock piles. Moderate to difficult hike.

A ‘one-way’ or ’round-trip’ hike is available. The one-way hike includes a shuttle to the trail head. The ‘one-way’ hike is approximately 4 miles. For the ’round-trip’ hike, parking is available at the Orris Falls, Emery’s Bridge Road parking area. The ’round-trip’ hike is approximately 9 miles.

This hike is free, space is limited, and registration is required. When registering, please let us know if you’re planning to hike the one-way or round-trip. Please e-mail [email protected] to reserve your spot!

Seasonal shrubland maintenance is in progress at the summit and is moving along at a steady clip! Early successional forest and shrubland habitats are uncommon in New England and for certain species, like snowshoe hare and American woodcock, these habitats are vital for survival. We cut specific sections of our 15-acres here at the summit on a five-year rotation. The bulk of this work is completed in the fall, after our feathered neighbors have moved on for the season, and before the snow flies. 🪶🍂❄️

Interested in helping out and learning more? Join us for our October Volunteer Community Work Day next Saturday the 17th from 9 AM - 12 PM! Volunteer work will involve hauling brush to various locations and stacking for wood chipping. Chips will be saved for future use as mulch in our plant beds. The Lodge is open from 12-4 PM both today and tomorrow! We will NOT be open on Monday.
We are keeping a tentative eye on the weather for next week. IF things are warm(ish) and dry, we'll be upstairs for one final weekend. We'll post here on socials and on our website either way.

Thanks to everyone who came by to learn with us this season. We had so much fun sharing this space with you! 🌈🐢

As we enter our busy fall season, we want to remind folks that registration is required for all organized groups. This includes planned meetups, celebrations, group hikes or rides, and all outdoor classes. Unauthorized commercial use is not allowed.

Our Group Registration system is one tool of many that helps us track visitation and ensure careful stewardship of the land. Furthermore, we can help you plan your visit and make sure there are no conflicts with scheduled groups or planned public programs and events!

Group Use fees may apply and are based on group size and intended use. Our Outreach and Education Coordinator will work with you to help plan your visit and determine a fee, if appropriate. ALL fees directly support the Conservation Program, from trails and facilities maintenance to our outreach and education efforts in the Learning Lodge and beyond. THANK YOU for your support! ✨🍂
