Two weeks from Election Day. Yesterday, I was a guest on the Gary Sutton show. My discussion / interview ran from the 1:32 mark through 1:45. Check it out to hear it in my own words.

Quick summary. We discussed my background, my interest in running, my key platform plank, data centers, and other concerns about politics in today’s world.

Key platform plank: The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) will strip over one trillion dollars from social programs over the next ten years: SNAP, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. I believe Pennsylvania will need to take action to support these programs to keep folks, fed, housed and healthy.

Data centers: As an engineer, I commissioned WellSpan’s data center at Apple Hill. It was not a hyperscale data center. These facilities CAN be built to be less burdensome on water, electricity and noise. To date, developers have been aggressively moving on rural communities that lack legal and technical resources to push back. Citizens are now mobilizing to push back on unrestricted development. We need uniform requirements to manage the negative impact.

Other concerns: On-time completion of our state budget is a must. It is the Number One responsibility of the Legislature. Last year, it was over 100 days late. This impacts funding of all our public school districts and any programs depending on state grants. I pledge to donate my full legislative salary for every day that PA goes without a budget. (You can check this out on my campaign website: http://www.Plaidsylvania.com)

In closing, we discussed the need for all legislators to be less combative. Talk together and work together for the benefit of all Pennsylvanians.

28 days until Election Day. Have you seen the new billboard up for the York County Democratic House candidates? I am proud to share the full slate with each of these people from different walks of life.

Fresh perspectives compared to the uniform voting of our incumbents. Did you know they voted 6-0 against our current state budget? This budget increases state funding for our local, public school districts without raising state taxes. They also voted against placing asthma inhalers in K-12 schools. Time for a change!

Election Day is 34 days away. I am regularly canvassing across the District. I knock on doors and have good conversations. Sometimes people commit to voting for me; sometimes not. The thing is, I try to always be polite and really listen. There are nine municipalities in PA House 47 District. So far, I have canvassed in all four boroughs: Hallam, Manchester, Mount Wolf, and Wrightsville. I have canvassed in 3 of 5 townships: Conewago, Hellam, and Springettsbury. I have canvass turfs set up for East Manchester and Manchester Townships. I’m on track to hit 2,000 doors personally. Here is a sampling of what I have heard.

Seniors are concerned about ever-increasing real estate taxes.
Nearly everyone complains about the cost of everything. Gas and diesel prices head the list and most reference the War in Iran.
Data centers are a concern - especially in Conewago Township. (I expect to hear that in East Manchester Township once I get there in October.)
Warehouses and associated traffic have brought more traffic than our roads are designed to handle.
Many folks feel that politicians are not looking out for their best interests. They “will do anything for their donors” and they’ve forgotten the citizens (the regular people).

I often get asked about my legislative priorities. Number one for me: using state funds to offset social programs attacked by the “One Big Beautiful Bill” (OBBB). After explaining cuts to SNAP, ACA subsidies, Medicare, and Medicaid, I say we must do whatever we can to take care of basic needs: Housing, food security, and healthcare. I get A LOT of agreement on that.

It’s amazing, but NOBODY has told me that folks are unhoused, unfed, and unhealthy because it’s their own fault. I don’t always get this far in my discussion, but it seems everybody agrees that we can do better to take care of the least of us. Charity has a role to play, and I work with folks in my church to address these concerns, but charities can only do so much. At some point, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will need to step up to cover for reduced Federal spending on social programs. Municipal budgets simply don’t have the resources to cover the gap we will see once the OBBB cuts are in full force. So, yeah - that’s my #1 legislative priority.

If that makes sense to you, please vote to send me to Harrisburg. I will do my best to justify your faith in me. Thank you.

Fall is here. Time for pruning. Get rid of the weeds and dead wood that aren’t working for you. Maybe you have a legislator who votes against common sense regulation of data centers. Someone that opposes providing asthma inhalers in schools to reduce the chance of student illness and death. Do you know of a politician that has voted against every state budget since he has been elected to office? My name is Edward Ritter and I approve this message.

If you believe an incumbent should be eager to defend his voting record in a public debate, maybe the legislative garden in Harrisburg needs some attention. See before and after images below.

Seven days. Our state budget is now 7 days late. With each State Representative and State Senator taking a salary of over $113,000 per year, the entire legislature’s daily compensation is $78,326.03 (actually higher because “leadership” has higher compensation). Ask your legislator if he/she is willing to forfeit their daily compensation of $309.59 for every day they fail to produce a budget. The meter is running…

If we refused to pay our legislators for every day they fail to produce a budget, the Commonwealth would show a credit of $548,282 for the seven days we have gone without a budget so far this year. Isn’t an “On-Time Budget” their number one job? They missed their deadline the last five years in a row.

Last year they were 135 days late. Municipalities and School Districts across Pennsylvania were forced to cut expenses and dip into reserves - some even took out loans - to cover their expenses because folks in Harrisburg did not get the job done… and they’re doing it again.

I think anyone in the private sector that performed that poorly would be out of a job. What do you think?
