As a part of the field training program, Deputy Velde and Deputy Garner participated in simulated high risk scenarios this past week. These simulated scenarios include several calls for service that our office has responded to over the span of the last several months and prepares them for situations before they encounter them without a field trainer in the passenger seat.

As we enter the final phase of field training, we continue to ramp up the training to prepare these two to hit the road on their own.

This week, our office had the opportunity to participate in an electrical safety demonstration and training hosted by Perennial Public Power District.

The training focused on the dangers of electricity, particularly downed power lines, and the precautions first responders should take when responding to emergencies involving electrical hazards.

As first responders, we often encounter dangerous situations, and training like this helps ensure our deputies have the knowledge to keep themselves and the public safe.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Perennial Public Power District for taking the time to provide this valuable training and for their continued commitment to public safety!

⚠️ Remember: Always assume a downed power line is energized. Stay away, keep others at a safe distance, and report it immediately!

Last night, Deputy Garner once again arrested an impaired driver following a single-vehicle accident in York County.

While the majority of our DUI arrests occur before an accident happens, unfortunately, we aren’t always able to stop an impaired driver before they crash.

Over the past two months, the York County Sheriff’s Office has seen a drastic increase in DUI arrests, particularly those involving alcohol. This is a concerning trend, and one we want to address before someone is seriously injured or killed.

🚔 YOU CAN HELP PREVENT THE NEXT CRASH! 🚔

If you observe a vehicle displaying unusual driving behaviors, such as swerving, failing to maintain its lane, driving at inconsistent speeds, or nearly striking other vehicles, call 911 and report it!

Provide dispatch with the vehicle’s location, direction of travel, description, and license plate if safely possible. Do not attempt to follow or stop the vehicle yourself.

Your call can save a life.

The York County Sheriff’s Office would like to congratulate Deputy Deion Hulse on successfully becoming a certified Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).

Drug Recognition Experts are called in to evaluate individuals who are suspected to be under the influence of drugs while driving and then render expert testimony in court concerning their observations during the evaluation.

The title of DRE is held by less than one percent of law enforcement officers nationally and held by less than eighty officers across Nebraska. It is one of the toughest trainings that is offered in the law enforcement profession as it requires the officer to successfully complete classroom coursework, practical field evaluations, along with several tests one of which the student must score a 100% to pass.

Traffic safety is paramount at our agency as traffic related calls are the most frequently answered by our agency. We are proud of Deputy Hulse’s accomplishment and look forward to his efforts in making York County roadways safer.

Last night, Deputy Garner removed two impaired drivers from York County roadways including this alcohol impaired driver.

Let us be extremely clear, we do not and will never tolerate drunk or impaired driving. If you’re caught driving on York County roads while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you will be arrested and you will be lodged at York County Corrections.

Driving under the influence puts your life and everyone else’s lives at risk. It’s not worth it. Drive sober or don’t drive at all.
