💙💛 Able-Services was proud to be part of the 2026 YADSA Buddy Walk! 💛💙

Last Saturday members from our team enjoyed connecting with the community, sharing information about our services at our vendor table, and celebrating inclusion and awareness alongside so many amazing individuals, families, and organizations.

One of our very own participants had a team in the walk, and we were excited to see Able-Services staff join the team in showing their support, alongside PA State Representative Joe D’Orsie! 👏

With a wonderful variety of food vendors, resource vendors, and teams coming together for the walk, it was a fantastic day filled with community spirit, connection, and celebration. Thank you to YADSA for bringing everyone together for such a meaningful event!

What a fun stop at the famous Haines Shoe House! Our group enjoyed checking out this unique local landmark and, of course, snapping a photo to remember the visit!

🚗Our participants rolled up their sleeves and helped give one of Able Services’ vehicles a much-needed refresh! From clearing leaves from under the hood and cleaning out the trunk to wiping down the interior, cleaning windows, vacuuming, and giving the outside a good wash, they tackled it all!

We love opportunities like these that encourage teamwork, responsibility, and pride in a job well done. Way to go, team! 👏

✨ A little creativity goes a long way at Able Services! Our participants had fun coloring, creating, and bringing their very own castles to life. By wrapping their designs around cardboard rolls, they turned their artwork into 3D castles that can stand tall!

Inclusion means making accommodations so everyone can participate. During a game of catch, a simple adjustment allowed a fellow participant to join in and enjoy the activity with their peers. It’s a great reminder that inclusion is about making sure everyone has the opportunity to be involved, have fun, and be part of the group.

Our participants learned about the life and artwork of Frida Kahlo and explored her unique style. They then created their own original pieces inspired by her colorful and expressive artwork. It was a fun opportunity to learn about an iconic artist while expressing their own creativity!

We had another wonderful visit to Core Salon! Jeanine, the owner, generously donates her time to provide our participants with haircuts, washes, shaves, and fun new hairdos. We truly appreciate the kindness and care she continues to show our group.
And, of course, our visits always include some time with her adorable little Yorkie, who is a favorite of our participants! 🐶💚

A huge thank you to State Representative Marc Anderson for spending time with our Self Advocacy Group and providing a nonpartisan, educational conversation about voter rights and the voting process. With a professional background in education, Representative Anderson was able to break the information down in a way that was understandable and help our members better understand how they can participate in the voting process.
One of the reasons this topic is so important to our group is that people with disabilities are often told they have rights without always being given the information and tools needed to understand and exercise those rights. Self-advocacy means more than knowing that a right exists, it means understanding your choices, knowing where to find reliable information, asking questions, and feeling confident enough to speak up for yourself.
Our goal isn't to tell anyone what to think or who to vote for. It's to make sure everyone has access to the knowledge they need to make their own informed decisions and have their own voice heard.
Thank you, Representative Anderson, for helping us turn “you have the right to vote” into “I understand my right to vote.”
