Two October updates to know: 1) Libby will soon need a PIN, 2) the online catalog is changing

1: By mid-October, the Libby app will require a PIN number to validate your library card.
Not to worry! At YCL, your PIN/Password is set to the last 4 digits of your library card.
❔If you changed it but forget, reach out to your local library for a quick reset.
➡️If you have an eCard starting with 990-, you picked your own PIN at signup.

2: Our online catalog vendor is moving from ChiliPAC to a new service, Aspen. Aspen has a LOT of great new features, like being able to search eBooks and print books at the same time!
🕐 If you turned on "Check Out History" in ChiliPAC and you want to keep the info, please download it by October 18th.
🕸️ Our blog has step-by-step instructions (with pictures) for how to do this!
➡️ Note: Most people do not have a Check Out History, as this is turned off by default.

☺️Hold queues and current checkouts will not be affected.
📜 Booklists will transfer so long as you log in to the new catalog one time between Oct. 19 and Dec. 1st.

"Double, double toil and trouble..." As the spooky season draws near, Emily York County Libraries has the perfect recommendation to get you in the mood for all things eerie: the works of Grady Hendrix! His stories are a combination of horror and dark humor, which Emily finds to be weird in the best possible way!

Take "Witchcraft for Wayward Girls", for example. Called 'wayward girls', unwed young mothers are hidden by their well-meaning families to have their babies in secret, give them up for adoption, and, most importantly, to forget any of it ever happened. Everything in their lives is strictly controlled by adults who claim they know what’s best for them. But everything changes when Fern meets a librarian who gives her an occult book about witchcraft. Suddenly, power is in the hands of the girls for the first time in their lives.

In "Witchcraft for Wayward Girls", author Grady Hendrix delivers another searing, completely original novel and further cements his status as a “horror master” (NPR).

Reserve a print copy in regular or large print from our YCL collection https://bit.ly/4s2lH4f. Prefer ebook or eAudio format? Check out "Witchcraft for Wayward Girls" in our Libby collection.

Come to York City this Sunday, Oct 18, for the 52nd Annual York County History Center Fall Oyster Festival, starting at 11am! (Don't worry--there's more than just oysters to eat!)
We're excited to have Miss Trish from Martin Library in the Kids Corral, and make sure to catch Miss Mindy in the museum at 12 noon for a special storytelling session! This celebration of York’s food and history draws a big crowd downtown. There’s lots to see and do for the whole family. Come see us there, and support a great local event.

Come for the food, stay for the fun. Inside the new Kids Corral, sponsored by the W. Dale Brougher Foundation, you’ll find friends ready with activities for the little ones, from an alpaca petting zoo to printmaking, balloon twisting and face painting.

Be sure to spend time with organizations that are new to the festival, including Keystone Kidspace, Martin Library, Shear Heaven Alpaca Farm and York Art Association, along with familiar faces such as Razzle Dazzle Balloons and Decor and face painter Luz Marrero .

You'll find the Kids Corral wrapped around the front and sides of the Colonial Courthouse. The Fall Oyster Festival runs 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, on Pershing Avenue between Philadelphia and Market streets. See you there!
