Update from the Director
October 21, 2026
I wanted to update everyone on where the Yorktown Public Library is at this point in our recovery from the August floods.
We are still waiting on estimates for rebuilding the interior of the library. Those should be coming in the next couple of days. Then the library board can make a decision on which vendors to use for the rebuild and work can start to get things back up and running.
I thought you might enjoy seeing some recent photos from inside the library. Laurie Hogue, assistant director, and I have been working inside the library most days. As you can see from the photos, we are working in βnewβ office areas and getting used to never having enough room to put our stuff! We are survivors and we are adjusting to our new reality as we do the day to day business of the library.
We are as anxious as you are to get things back to βnormalβ so we can see you all again and provide all the great services you find at your local public library.
We are still getting generous donations to help in our recovery efforts. Each one is special and appreciated beyond words. If you havenβt done so yet, please consider making a donation to the library, and we will use it responsibly to help in these efforts to return library service to our community.
We also appreciate the numerous offers of book donations. As soon as we're able to take in materials, we will let you know.
A special thank you to all who have donated. It is truly appreciated and reminds us how much this library is loved.
