🚨 Evacuation Zone Updates – Know Your Zone, Stay Ready🚨
As fire season approaches, the Siskiyou County Office of Emergency Services and our fire agency partners have made important updates to evacuation zones to better serve and protect our communities.
✅ There are TWO key changes you need to know:
1️⃣ Zone Numbers or Boundaries may have changed – some zones were split or adjusted to improve local response.
2️⃣ Zone Prefixes have been updated – they now reflect your specific community for easier recognition.

➡️ For example:
• Greenview was previously under SIS, it’s now GVW
• Montague is now listed as MTG

These changes were made thoughtfully and intentionally—to make evacuation info clearer, faster, and more community-specific. Even if your zone looks familiar, double check to make sure nothing has changed.

Visioning and Guiding Principles Workshop Session

Staff and the consultant team (Mintier Harnish) will facilitate a workshop between the Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission to present the Draft Community Vision and Guiding Principles for the County General Plan. This workshop will include a list of comments received from the community and the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). Comments received during the study session will be considered in preparation of the Final Community Vision and Guiding Principles. A vision statement reflects what community members value most about the county and their shared aspirations for the future. The vision statement sets the direction for the General Plan’s goals, policies, and implementation programs for the next 20 years.

The meeting with include opportunity for public input. Please join us!

As part of the General Plan Update for the unincorporated county, the General Plan Team held an initial set of in-person workshops in locations throughout the county. The purpose of the workshops was to gather community input to help establish a long-term vision for the county’s future.

For those who were unable to attend any of the in-person workshops, the General Plan Team developed online exercises and a survey to collect additional input on assets, issues, and opportunities throughout the county. The purpose of this update is to regulate the use of vacation rentals in alignment with the county's objectives. The regulations aim to minimize adverse secondary effects on surrounding neighborhoods, prevent over-concentration of transient and commercial uses in residential areas, and impose reasonable limitations to preserve long-term housing availability. These measures are designed to ensure compliance with the general plan, local regulations, and other policies, while maintaining neighborhood compatibility with vacation rental usage.

The new application provides clear guidance on all necessary steps and requirements for prospective vacation rental operators. By streamlining the application process and outlining specific requirements, the Planning Department aims to facilitate responsible vacation rental management and promote community well-being.
