🚩 RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Siskiyou County due to the potential for abundant lightning on dry fuels.

⚡ A mix of dry and wet thunderstorms is expected to move north across the area throughout the day, bringing:
• Frequent lightning
• Wind gusts up to 35 mph
• The potential for new wildfire starts that could spread quickly

A Red Flag Warning does NOT mean there is an active fire. It means weather conditions are favorable for rapid wildfire ignition and spread.

Please do your part to help prevent wildfires:

With dry vegetation across the region, one less spark means one less wildfire.

Mayor Colleen Baker will be having open chamber hours at City Hall Friday, June 19, 2026, from 2:30 to 3:30 pm

CAL FIRE plans to conduct a 10-acre prescribed night burn off Humbug Road, approximately one mile northwest of Yreka, on June 18–19, 2026, weather and resource availability permitting. Ignition is scheduled for approximately 8:00 p.m. Residents in South Yreka and motorists traveling along Interstate 5 should expect to see smoke and fire activity during the operation and for several days afterward.

Crews will utilize cooler nighttime temperatures and higher humidity levels to safely reduce hazardous vegetation, including grass, juniper, and oak understory fuels. This project will help improve forest health, enhance wildlife habitat, reduce the risk of future wildfires, and provide valuable live-fire training opportunities for firefighters. Smoke impacts may be present for 1–4 days, depending on weather conditions. High temperatures are expected across the Yreka area over the next week. Residents are encouraged to take precautions to stay cool and hydrated.

🏠 To help keep your home cooler:
• Close blinds, curtains, and windows during the hottest part of the day.
• Use fans to circulate air and consider cooling off with a damp cloth or cool shower.
• Run heat-producing appliances, such as ovens, dishwashers, and dryers, during the evening or early morning hours.
• Drink plenty of water, even if you do not feel thirsty.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Siskiyou County from 11:00 AM Sunday through 11:00 PM Tuesday.

🌡️ What to Expect
• High temperatures between 94°F and 104°F
• Overnight lows between 55°F and 65°F
• Affected communities include Yreka, Montague, Klamath River, W**d, Mount Shasta City, Dunsmuir, McCloud, and Hilt

⚠️ Hot temperatures can cause heat-related illnesses.
Protect Yourself and Others:
💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day
🏠 Spend time in air-conditioned buildings when possible
🌳 Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day
👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
👥 Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and others who may be vulnerable to extreme heat
🐾 Ensure pets have access to shade and fresh water at all times
🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle

• Heat Exhaustion: Heavy sweating, dizziness, weakness, headache, nausea
• Heat Stroke: Confusion, loss of consciousness, hot dry skin, high body temperature
