Cooler Weather Doesn’t Mean Fire Danger Is Over!

Siskiyou County has seen cooler temperatures and some rainfall, but residential debris burning remains suspended!

CAL FIRE Siskiyou Unit is currently discussing when the burn permit suspension may be lifted. An official announcement will be made once a decision is reached.

Even with cooler weather, dry vegetation and wind can still create dangerous fire conditions.

*Continue maintaining defensible space.
*Clear leaves and debris from roofs and gutters.
*Hold off on burning debris until restrictions are lifted.

A little rain doesn’t mean it’s safe to burn!

– Wildfire Prevention Efforts Prove Successful!

Earlier this week, a roadside vegetation fire along Interstate 5, between A-12 and Easy Street, highlighted the importance and success of proactive wildfire prevention efforts in Siskiyou County.

The fire, which was caused by a vehicle, had the potential to spread into a much larger incident. However, thanks to the combined efforts of Caltrans District 2’s roadside mowing and CAL FIRE’s Interstate 5 Scrape Project, the fire remained small and was quickly extinguished before spreading beyond the highway right of way.

This incident is a perfect example of how strategic vegetation management, fuel reduction, and strong partnerships can make a significant difference in slowing the spread of wildfire and protecting our communities.

Prevention efforts are paying off! What could have become a significant wildfire instead became a success story, demonstrating that the work being done today is helping protect Siskiyou County tomorrow.

SMOKE ADVISORY – SOUTH SISKIYOU COUNTY

No need to be alarmed! The increased smoke drifting into southern Siskiyou County is coming from a prescribed burn taking place off Highway 89, outside of McCloud.
Residents may notice smoke in the surrounding communities. Please stay informed and use caution if traveling through areas with reduced visibility.

🔥PRESCRIBED FIRE NOTICE: McCLOUD RANGER DISTRICT🔥

Test fire ignitions were successful Tuesday morning at the Snowmans prescribed fire project near McCloud. The project aims to treat 207 acres with low intensity fire.

Smoke will be visible in Mount Shasta, McCloud and other nearby communities in Siskiyou County. Forest Service firefighters will be in the area throughout the day.

We use prescribed fires to reduce overgrown vegetation to help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires. Prescribed fire is also a tool we use for habitat restoration and overall ecosystem health.

These areas may close to the public for several days for public safety. Watch for warning signs along roads near all prescribed fire areas before and during burns.

Residents may experience smoke during the prescribed burns. For more detailed information about air quality, go to AirNow online or download the app. When driving, slow down and turn on your headlights when you encounter smoke on the road.

- (Update/Final) The fires final size is .45 acres. Crew will continue to mop up and strengthen containment lines and closely monitor fire activity, ensuring it stays within controlled lines.Stay alert and stay informed. The cause remains under investigation.

-(NEW) CAL FIRE at scene of a vegetation fire between I-5 and Hornbrook Rd. Fire is 1/4 to 1/2 acre. Burning at a slow rate of spread in grass and brush. No evacuations or road closures at this time.Stay informed for changing conditions.

On October 18, 2026, at approximately 6:00 p.m., a CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officer arrested a 42-year-old Montague resident in connection with the Jade Fire. The suspect was transported to the Siskiyou County Jail and booked.

Due to successful firefighting efforts on the , a new start in the area of Big Springs Rd and Jade Ave, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, with the support of our fire partners, is downgrading the remaining zone from an EVACUATION WARNING to NORMAL STATUS:

(Update) – Fire resources made good progress overnight, strengthening containment lines around the Jade Fire. Crews will continue extensive mop-up operations today, focusing on deep juniper duff where heat can remain hidden beneath the surface. These efforts are critical to securing containment lines and preventing flare-ups.

Per the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Offices all evacuations have been lifted.
