Great news! The VAP is pleased to announce that our prayers for a donated pickup to our program have been answered!! Thanks to the efforts from Shawn Williamson of the Siskiyou County Veteran's Office, Siskiyou County Supervisor Jess Harris and our main volunteers Richard and Jerry, the Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors approved the donation of a surplus 1997 F350 4x4 with a dump bed to our Firewood for Veterans program! With a few minor modifications, we will be on the road making deliveries sooner than later! Thank you to all involved!!

Happy Spring! Although we've been quiet on social media, we've been non-stop busy procuring, splitting and delivering firewood to the Veterans in our program. We did deal with a discouraging situation, finding out some clients were taking advantage and reselling or distributing the free firewood meant for their immediate household, but that has been dealt with. There were also questions about the income letters sent out; basically, we are asking for a donation that helps with fuel, insurance and supplies from those within a certain income bracket. We still deliver FREE firewood to our disabled Veterans and those who can't afford to pay. Please call Jennifer at (530) 917-9478 if you have any questions. We are also focusing on getting deliveries going for your winter supply, so please call to schedule! And lastly, we hope to have some VERY good news to share soon! Thank you all for supporting our firewood for Veterans program. 🤗
Hi all! Just an update to let you know our Firewood for Veteran's program is still here, hanging by a thread. We have 7 steady older volunteers who are dealing with health issues themselves but put in the time splitting and delivering firewood to our Veterans. Last year we delivered over 280 cords of wood to all corners of Siskiyou County, using our pickup which runs on a wing and a prayer. Speaking of, we have a savings account established specifically towards purchasing a new pick-up, so we do accept donations towards that. Our biggest issue at the moment is the lack of dry firewood--we don't have any. We are scrounging as best we can to find some and would love donations of DRY wood. No standing trees anymore--due to health and age issues we appreciate easily accessible rounds we can load in our trailer and take to our yard to split. Please remember we really appreciate those who have signed up with Great Northern Services and have vouchers to give us. If you have any questions, please reach out via Messenger or call Jennifer at (530) 917-9478. We'll try to do another update soon. Thank you!!
To our firewood customers: Due to economic circumstances beyond our control, we will be implementing this unfortunate but necessary change to our program. Beginning in 2026 we will be requiring our clients to fill out an income form as set out by Great Northern to confirm those households who qualify as a "poverty" or hardship level. Those who qualify will continue to receive firewood at no cost. Those households above the income level will pay $150 for a trailer load (approx. 1.5 cords) of seasoned, split and delivered firewood. All 167 households we currently deliver to will be receiving notification by mail. Thank you for your understanding and continued participation in our program.
We have raffle winners!! Raffle tickets were drawn during the Veteran's Day ceremony at Evergreen Cemetery, and we are pleased to announce the winners! The $1,000 Solanos gift card went to Ft. Jones resident Matt LaFotune and the trailer load of dry, split firewood will be delivered to Dunsmuir resident Don Bettinger. Congratulations to our winners and thank you SO much to everybody who purchased tickets and helped support our program by doing so. We appreciate you all!

A reminder that the VAP's main source of income to support our Free Firewood for Veterans program comes from the vouchers we receive from those Veterans signed up with Great Northern for their firewood vouchers. Now is a good time to resubmit your application (a once yearly requirement) or to get signed up if you haven't already. You can submit an application online at www.gnservices.org or request one by calling Great Northern Services at (530) 938-4115. You can also call Jennifer at (530) 917-9478 for any questions or help you might need with the application. The VAP absolutely appreciates your efforts in getting signed up with the firewood voucher program! Thank you in advance!
