March 1, 2022

Dear Parents and Guardians:

The safety of students and staff remains a priority for the remainder of school year 2021-2022. As you are aware, after March 11, 2022, the universal masking requirement for Kindergarten through grade twelve will terminate. After the March 11, 2022 date, our district will operate following the California Department of Public Health Guidelines and the Siskiyou County Public Health guidelines, and we will follow the procedures below:

• Students will not be asked to wear masks, but they may choose to do so as an individual choice.
• Masks will continue to be made available in all classrooms and offices within our district.
• Choices to wear a mask or not wear a mask will be respected.
• Cleaning and disinfecting will continue in the district on a daily basis.
• Optimal air ventilation in our facilities will continue to be provided and will be improved as our capacity allows.

We appreciate your patience as we have navigated this constantly changing environment while we have continued to meet the commitment of providing safe and in-person instruction. As guidance is updated and modified, any changes will be communicated.

Sincerely,

James Berry
Acting Superintendent

Social Media Threats

Governor Gavin Newsom’s office has alerted us that the FBI has received multiple social media notifications indicating several school districts across the country, including California, have received bomb and shooting threats planned for December 17, 2021. Reports of these threats are circulating on multiple social media platforms (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, etc.). We are aware of this trend and as of yet do not know of any specific threats to our area. Law Enforcement is monitoring the situation.

We are taking extra precautions and will have additional personnel on and around our campuses. More importantly, we would ask parents to monitor their students’ social media. It is also important to discuss the serious nature of such activities on the various Social Media Platforms. What may seem like a simple prank to some, is not in anyway funny. This is a serious and dangerous situation in todays society. It is not a joke and we must take all such comments and posts seriously as does Law Enforcement.

For now, we do not know of any specific threats against our schools and while we are being cautious, we are continuing into tomorrow as normal.

Yreka Union School District Families:

We will be ready for in person instruction starting on Monday September 20th.

We want to thank you for your patience and understanding during this change to short term independent study and we look forward to welcoming you and your child back to school on Monday.

If your child has been exposed to Covid 19, or is experiencing Covid 19 symptoms, it is very important that your child not come to school to stop the spread to other students and our staff. Most children will have very short lived, or mild symptoms. It’s incredibly important to assess your child every morning prior to sending them to school.

Also, if any of the adults or siblings in the home are feeling unwell, please keep your child home, and seek out COVID testing.
We thank you for your support in this.
