YREKA FIRE AWARDED $15,000 FOR NEW RADIO EQUIPMENT

The Yreka Fire Department has received a $15,000 grant for new radio equipment courtesy of the California Fire Foundation. These radios will be placed into service immediately and will replace 20 year old radios which are now obsolete and unable to be repaired. The Yreka Fire Department extends heartfelt thanks to the California Fire Foundation for this generous amount. This equipment will allow the firefighters to operate safely and efficiently going forward.

If you hear sirens in the area, electrical contractors are currently performing work at Carnegie Hall. There is no cause for concern.

Per the City of Yreka Fire Chief, dooryard burning within the City of Yreka will resume effective immediately.

Burn Permits previously obtained from City Hall are still valid. Burn Permits are free and can be obtained from Yreka City Hall – 701 Fourth Street – Mondays through Thursdays 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (closed from 12:00 pm-1:00 pm) during the burn season. Keep your eyes out for posts from Public Works regarding free drop off days for woody debris and yard waste.

Welcome Marquis Smith!

Marquis was recently hired by the City of Yreka to serve as a full time, paid Captain in the Yreka Fire Department. Marquis has approximately 24 years of experience in the fire service with the majority of those years spent with Mt. Shasta Fire Department, where he also served as a Captain prior to joining YFD. He is quiet but energetic, has a great work ethic and is a great addition to the staff!

Over the next few months, YFD plans to hire additional personnel so there are firefighters maintaining 24/7 coverage at Ley Station

πŸŽ† 4th of July Reminder – Fireworks Safety First! πŸŽ†

As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day, we want to remind everyone that personal fireworks are NOT allowed in the unincorporated areas of the county (County Code Ord. No. 22-11).

🚫 That means no selling, using, or possessing fireworks in these areas β€” it's the law and it's for your safety.

πŸ”₯ With wildfire danger at an all-time high, we’re counting on everyone to help keep our communities safe. The best and safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a local public display put on by professionals!

Read the full ordinance here:

Have a safe and happy 4th of July! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
