This Earth Day, celebrate by using water more efficiently outdoors!

Nearly half of a typical household’s water use goes toward outdoor irrigation, yet a significant portion is lost to evaporation or runoff, especially when watering during the heat of the day. By simply watering your yard in the early morning or evening, you can reduce water loss and help your plants absorb more of what they need. Water sustains landscapes, wildlife, and communities alike. Choosing to water your landscape wisely is a small change that can save thousands of gallons each year while protecting the natural groundwater we all depend on!

Happy Easter from Western Heights Water Company!

Don’t “egg-nore” this simple Easter hack!
Before you pour out that pot of egg water, consider giving your plants a natural boost instead. After boiling eggs, the water contains small amounts of calcium and amino acids that have leached from the shells. Calcium helps plants develop strong stems and healthy leaves, making this an easy way to turn kitchen leftovers into a gentle, eco-friendly supplement for your garden or houseplants. While it’s not a replacement for fertilizer, it’s a great way to reuse water and add a little extra nourishment.

You can keep the sustainability going by saving your eggshells, too. Since they’re made up of about 95% calcium carbonate, crushed shells are a great addition to compost and help enrich soil as they break down!

This Valentine’s Day, we’re celebrating the everyday moments made possible by water- shared meals, warm cups of coffee, and time spent with the people we love most. As we show appreciation for those closest to us, it’s also a meaningful time to care for the resources that sustain our community.

Instead of traditional presents, consider gifting a reusable water bottle and filling it up at our Alkaline Water Station. At just $1 a gallon, it’s a lot less than the cost of enhanced treated water elsewhere, and it’s less than buying bottled water and more environmentally-friendly. Rest assured your water is clean and safe and you can drink it straight from the tap, or from the Western Heights vending machine!

Thank you for helping protect and appreciate every drop of water. Wishing you a Valentine’s Day filled with love and gratitude!

During the holiday season, we’re reminded of the importance of community and caring for shared resources. With more activity at home, being mindful of water use helps ensure clean, reliable service for everyone. Try to only run full loads of laundry and dishes in the washer to make the best use of your water-efficient appliances, particularly during the busy holiday!

Western Heights Water Company will be closed today and tomorrow, December 26, and will reopen on Monday, December 29 at 8 AM. Our team wishes you a safe and happy holiday!

This Thanksgiving, let’s be thankful for the gift of water! The best way to show your thanks? Making sure to practice water conservation while preparing for your family festivities! Try to use leftover cooking water (from boiling potatoes and washing vegetables) to water indoor and outdoor plants so you don’t waste a drop.

We will be closed today, November 27 and Friday, November 28 in observance of the holiday and will reopen on Monday, December 1 at 8 am.

Does your toilet flush when no one’s around? You might have a “ghost flush” on your hands — and it’s more frightening than it sounds!

A ghost flush happens when water slowly leaks from the tank into the bowl, causing the toilet to refill automatically. Severe leaks can waste up to 200 gallons a day which can add up to nearly 6,000 gallons a month!

Here’s how to catch your toilet 'ghost':
- Add a few drops of food dye to your toilet tank and wait 10–30 minutes without flushing.
- If the water in the bowl changes color, your toilet’s haunted by a leak!

Replace the old flapper — it’s often the culprit. You can also adjust the fill valve or water level to prevent constant refills. Installing or repairing with WaterSense-labeled parts can reduce flushing water use by 20–60%, saving your household up to 13,000 gallons a year!

Think of water as fuel for your child’s brain. Their bodies are made up of about 60% water, and staying hydrated is key to keeping their energy, focus, and mood steady throughout the school day. Even being a little dehydrated can leave them feeling tired, cranky, or distracted in class.

That’s why a reusable water bottle filled with Western Heights water is such a simple but powerful tool. It helps kids build the habit of sipping regularly, keeps them refreshed, and saves hundreds of single-use plastic bottles from going into the trash each year.

Plus, teachers notice the difference too! Hydrated kids are more alert, engaged, and ready to learn. A small daily habit really can have a big impact on both their education and the environment.
