This National Teen Driver Safety Week, the Nassau County Sheriff's Office is reminding young drivers that safe driving starts with the choices you make behind the wheel.

๐Ÿ“ต Keep your hands off your phone.
๐Ÿš— Put distractions in park before you put your car in drive.
โš ๏ธ Your future isn't a race. Slow down.
๐Ÿ›‘ Know when to hit the brakes, especially on bad decisions.
๐Ÿ‘€ Hindsight is 20/20. Talk to your teen about safe driving today.

Getting a driver's license is just the beginning. Developing the skills and judgement to navigate the unexpected takes practice.

That's why NCSO offers the Teen Driver Challenge, a hands-on driving course designed to help teens strengthen their driving skills and become safer, more responsible drivers.

Parents, help your teen take the next step toward safer driving. Learn more about the Teen Driver Challenge here: https://nassauso.com/programs/teen-driver-challenge/

Events like these are a great opportunity to connect with our community, share a few laughs, and build relationships beyond the badge. We appreciate everyone who came out, shared a meal, and spent some time with our team! Thank you to Bohemian Bull for hosting this event and helping bring our community and law enforcement together. We look forward to more opportunities to connect with the people we proudly serve! ๐Ÿ’™

This week is National School Bus Safety Week, and the Nassau County Sheriffโ€™s Office is reminding drivers of a simple but critical rule: When a school bus stops and its red lights flash, you must stop.

So far this year, our deputies have pulled over at least 60 drivers for failing to stop for a school bus. The dashcam footage in this video shows just how dangerous these violations can be.

Know the rules:
๐Ÿ›‘ Two-lane roads: Traffic in both directions must stop when a school bus displays flashing red lights.

๐Ÿ›‘ Multi-lane roads paved across: Traffic in both directions must also stop.

๐Ÿ›‘ Divided highways: If a physical barrier or unpaved median separates the lanes, only drivers traveling in the same direction as the school bus must stop. All other drivers should proceed with caution.

A few seconds saved are never worth putting a child's life at risk. Watch for flashing lights, obey the law and remember that children may be crossing the road.
