🚨 SCAM ALERT — BITCOIN / CRYPTOCURRENCY SCAMS 🚨
The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office has recently seen an uptick in scams involving Bitcoin and other forms of cryptocurrency.
Scammers are calling residents and claiming that they have an outstanding warrant, missed jury duty, failed to appear in court, or have some other legal issue. They then demand immediate payment—often through Bitcoin or another cryptocurrency ATM—to avoid arrest.
⚠️ THIS IS A SCAM!
❌ Law enforcement will not call you to inform you that you have a warrant and demand payment to make the warrant go away.
❌ Law enforcement will NOT demand Bitcoin to clear a warrant.
❌ Do NOT provide personal, banking, or cryptocurrency information to the caller.
❌ Do NOT follow instructions from the caller to withdraw cash or deposit money into a Bitcoin ATM.
If you receive a call like this, hang up. Do not engage with the caller or give them any information.
DON'T BE A VICTIM. STOP. HANG UP.
